thread tap for oil pan

I am taping my oil pan for my return line and I just wanted check to make sure im purchasing the right tap. I bought a 10 AN line male on both sides and I went to the hydraulic shop and he told me I needed a 7/8 14 ase thread tap I just wanted to make sure this is the right conversion thanks guys.

I do hope you're welding that in and not just tapping and screwin it in...

I'm sorry I can't help you with your question we used a pipe fitting and therefore a pipe thread tap.

I had my aluminum fitting welded into the pan after tapping it. Much better looking and performing, IMO. Find a machine shop that specializes in metal work, or a race fab shop.

I dont see a problem with tapping into an oil pan without welding it, I have seen many like taht without leaking. A few I have seen, which I will probably do, after they threaded the fitting in, they JB welded around the outside of it.

Yes it is but it is also pipe threads so they seal themselves.

Almost everyone uses pipe threads. I have a 5/8ths 90 degree elbow pipefitting with 1/2 inch line running from the turbo into the 5/8ths fitting.
