I have a 2002 Sunfire with a 2200. First off, I know everyone's answer is probaly going to be "Go Eco!". But here is the figures I've researched:
Hahn Turbo system for 2200 - 171 Wheel horsepower, 8 PSI of Boost, and
Kit Includes: Super 15G Turbocharger, manifold, intake and piping, fuel system, oiling system, blow off valve, front mount intercooler (core dimensions 24”x6.5”x4.5”) with integral return chamber, intercooler piping, all installation hardware, gaskets, couplers and clamps.
Retail Price $3396
GM Performance Parts Crate Engine RPO LSJ (SC 2.0L Eco) - 205 (not Wheel) hp, and
Kit does NOT include: Pulley, belt, p/s pump, a/c pump, starter, alternator, and engine cover.
Retail Price $4950
So, now I'm looking for a honest opinion from everybody. Keep in mind this will remain my daily driver with a few weekend track days. I am not looking for more than 200 hp, so either of these kits are perfect. I want everyone to also consider installation time, down time, and other parts that I might need to pickup before I start. And most importantly PRICE. I mean TOTAL price. In the end. Out of my pocket. Last cent spent price.
Taking everything in mind what's your opinion.
I dont think you would be unhappy with the turbo , but thats about as far as you can take that motor, the LSJ starts at 30 more HP than that and can be taken much further however there is some question as to whether it can even be swapped into a J, clutch, axles and tranny are different, i dont know of anyone that has done it

I vote turbo LN2. I've heard good things about Hahn and it looks like the system you refer to addresses fuel and comes intercooled. The LN2 is sturdy and simple also. If you don't already have at
least a 2 1/4" exhaust then you might as well figure a full exhaust into the mix
200 hp? turbo your ln2. you can make that on a stock ln2 with that turbo setup. id say use HPT to tune it right though..
the LSJ has been swapped into a J. it used a 2.2 eco trans and flywheel/clutch. also needs 2.2 eco TB. it will still need HPT to tune it right.
overall i wouldnt swap to any eco unless you wanna make 300+ HP. the LN2 can make power but above 300 its not as cheap as the eco. also if you get into a swap and boost setup you may loose your interest in the car. for 200 HP stay ln2.

Thanks for the opinions and keeping it honest. Total price and down time with the Eco setup is becoming apparent.
Let's keep in mind, Rodimus, I'm not looking to "push" these engines to the breaking point. 200 hp would be enough to satisfy my week end racer tastes, so it could be anybody's game.
I've even considered a 2.4L SC setup. But for simplicity's sake, I think these are the easiest swaps/upgrades.
for a 2000+ a 2.4 TC and a 2.2 eco are the same complexity for the swap (and that is very little). the 2.0 eco s/c is more work.

O trust me, most would be pretty happy with a streetable 200whp'ed J. Very fun, especially with good suspension!

well with price being a factor I think the Hahn Turbo is the way to go your gong to spend 1500 or more getting the LSJ working in there not to mention its ALOT more work and doesnt make cool noises like a turbo

^ ^ ^ Their is no replacing the sound of a BOV. It DEMANDS respect!
turbo setup at jtuners:
stage 1
stage 3
"Recent dyno results of JTuners 2.2L OHV turbo kit with JTuners Intercooler, 310 CC injectors, Hypertech LT1 fuel pressure regulator and full 2.5” exhaust on otherwise bone stock 2002 Cavalier:
180 HP and 215 lb/ft torque at the wheels!"
^^^I was gonna say "go w/ Jtuners". They have a very nice manifold, a better suited turbo, and it's cheaper. However, buy a JRC FMIC and do your own charge pipes, you'll save quite a bit of $$$, it's not difficult, and it will work just as well. Also, as mentioned, factor in some cash for a full exhaust, and injectors, both must-haves. Obviously HPT is necessary (now that it's out).
If you want to save even more $$$$, do a little research and piece together your own kit. The LN2 is very easy to work on, and there's lots of room

Yep, there's two that beat me to the punch. Look into the J-Tuners turbo!
i have a question, got a 97 sunfire 2.4L got about 168whp if but to be safe lets say 160 whp non turbo with stock internals. got about 118000 miles on the motor. would it be save for me to drop a stage 1 turbo kit from jtuners in there and leave it a 5psi, or is it a bad idea
replace the internals and you should be fine, but almost any motor at that mileage is a time bomb

Price of the JTuners setup with intercooler is $3490 vs $3396 for the Hahn setup. That's why I didn't list that turbo setup as an option.
even if the J-Tuners was less id still go with the Hahn, thier stuff is awesome

their stuff is AWESOME, Rodimus and I saw their shop in person on their open house thing. i've never seen JTuners stuff in person but I hear they are great too. for me personally though, I'd go with Hahn cuz I only live a mile away

I saw go turbo ln2. A swap can have many unseen items pop up, and will increase downtime. The quickest, and easiest way to reach your goal is turbo ln2.
I wish I lived a few minutes from hahn and not like several hundred min

Thanks for the info and opinions guys. I think a turbo 2200 is the way to go. Unless.........................someone can prove a NOS 2200 would fit the bill.
well it would take a 75 shot to make that kinda power, and it certainly wouldnt last near as long

Out of curiousity... WHO has a LSJ swapped into a J?? First I've heard of this.
Airtonics is doing it right now I dont know of this other person

Airtronics has the s/c from a 2.0 mated to his 2.2 i believe. A member on here did have a LSJ in his/her 3rd gen J. I will not give out the name here since he/she will be bombarded with emails/pm's and i do not want to cuase that.
pm me and I'll let you, and you alone, know, I will leave it up to him/her to expose themself

Well I know that information is incorrect. Maybe someone did swap it, I'm currently in the process. I know they didn't use the 2.2 flywheel, clutch or pressure plate though.
I've seen or heard no real proof that someone else has completed it, I'm the only other one that I know of who has attenpted it. Waiting on a few dealer items (necessary bolts) before putting the engine in but I"m curious how they overcame some of the same differences that I have with the motor. Not saying it can't be done, obviously I beleive it can but I'd like to see some pics of their swap or talk to them.
