Does anybody know the max horsepower that the block and crank can handle on a stock 99' Z24 2.4L. cuz i want to put in a turbo at 6psi. And i was also wondering if i have a turbo should i go stage 2 or stage 3 clutch.

if i can remember correctly, the stock crank can handle 600 horse. you dont really need to worry about your block other than cooling, the 2.4 sucks for oil pressure. read some of the random performance and boost forums and learn a little more before going out to buy something right away. for a clutch with a turbo running 6 psi, i'd go with a stg 1 or 2 clutch, especially if you still want it as a daily driver. the higher stage clutch will be too, dare i say... "jerky" off the line. good luck

275ish is probably where your rods will break.

I would be more worried about the rods or pistons going before the block or crank. but theres no real number to give on what the parts will break at. everything is mass produced so some things might be stronger then others. such as one person's block will go at 550hp and another person's block goes at 701hp really depends on to many things. Tuning being the key will get the most out of your block. get the crank cryoed and balanced and it should be good to you.

i do know the stock rods are weak if the boost comes in too fast you will bend a rod i seen it happen to an 2001 2.4 with a small turbo so be careful

I threw a rod at around 250ish. That really had nothing to do with power though. On a accurate/precise tune, I wouldn't go higher than 270.

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

Who has pushed 600 hp out of a 2.4 for them to even break a crank or a block?

Yes i know the 2.4L that is in the SRT-4 is different but alot of them are handling Over 600hp. One i know has 612hp & 532tor to the wheels and has over 80 passes at the track. Not that are cars come close to the motor in the SRT but i still think it's crazy to run that much Horse out of a 4cyl.

you know whats even crazier, the gm racing ecotoc powered cobalt nhra car that runs 62 psi and is pushing out 1800 horsepower......now thats awesome..... i wish i had an eco in my 96 cav. however, my 2.4 will be doing fine next month with 15 psi......even though no one thinks i will ever get it to run with the AEM engine management system......im lucky my brother knows the guys very well that built and race the cobalt drag car. were hoping for 300 at the wheels or something very close....a little spray might be needed but that can be arranged.......tore the head off of mine last night to install the new comtec head gasket and ARP head studs......she is under surgery as we speek but its coming well......i will keep everything updated
