Where did this come from??
Saturday, May 27, 2006 12:42 AM
It's an older Garrett turbo with a .48 a/r turbine and .60 a/r compressor. No shaft play, no damage to either wheel, and it spins for a few seconds with the twist of a hand. No noise whatsoever..... Is this worth keeping? The coupler that bolts to the compessor housing has Ford on it and some numbers, but I can't find anything out about it ( what it came off of) cuz the Turbo T-birds had a different sized snail for their manual and auto but neither matches what I have. Which Ford came with this? I'm pretty sure it's journal bearing, I just want to know more about it. (What size engine it was built for, ect.)
Thanks for any help.
Travis

It most likely came off a Mustang SVO.

Nope. Merkur xti and thunderbirds came with the .48/.60... SVO's came with the .60/.63. Keep it, that turbo is nearly identical to the worshipped "Super 60" on here.. Most turbos people run arn't even real super 60's anyway.

Blew it up, build numbers coming soon

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I feel much better about tha ol' snail now. I sit here and look at it everyday knowing it can either make or break my car. Nice to hear good unique things about it 98redZ thanks for the knowledge. It's been soakin' in diesel fuel for about 3 months so everything is nice and clean yet slippery. Guess I'll grab a new replacement bearing cartridge from ATPTurbo and put some life back in it. Thanks again.

sorry to jack the thread.

But i've ask this Q in a few placed and no one can seen to answer it.

How do you know if the turbo you have it a true super 60.

I got mine front atp. and the guy i talked to about getting a super 60 said that that was a
turbonetics turbo, and that the t3 60 trim on the site was the same thing as a super 60.

Now I'm thinking different.

Thanks for the any reply and sorry to jack on this thread.

ecofire where did you get the turbo from? it could be a "hybrid" type deal, just swapping the compressor housing from say a .42/.48 to a .60/.48 isn't that hard and commonly done..

m.k

if i remember correctly a" true " super 60 has a 1.9" exducer wheel, while a 60 trim has like a 1.87" exducer wheel....
please some one correct me if i'm wrong on this.

I got the turbo off of a guy that had it on his ford probe and it was fast as hell. He ended up rolling the car and let me have the turbo cuz he didn't feel like taking it off, so I took it off.
On the compressor is stamped M10, if that helps explain its origin any. It's oil and water cooled with the 1.9 exducer wheel (I just measured it).
