for those of you that have the gm supercharger, how much noise does it make? is it a noticeable difference over just the engine?
of course it is, its a supercharger, it whines
so after i add it everyone will know by the noise? well there goes the idea of a sleeper
its not extreamly loud. you really only hear the whine when you get on the gas hard. my friends told me that they couldn't even hear it from the stands when i was at the track.
if your putting it on a eco , it is pretty quite with the stock intake hooked up
if you make a metal tube intake , it will get louder
yea what 97cavie24ls(JDM&00s/c sedans™) said... you can hear it slightly with the stock intake... but as soon as you put a meatal one on... and depending where is sits you can really hear it.... here is a video of mine where you can hear it pretty good where the intake sits...

Mine, with the stock airboz was only noticable when I revved it hard but now that I have a 3" intake pointing straight at me under the hood and the 3" pulley the supercharger screams. I love it and Im addicted.
Check out my car....

see my idea of a sleeper is that it should LOOK like a sleeper
when people hear whine comin from under the hood of a cavalier, they are amazed
and if you really dont want it to make noise, then dont jam the pedal
either way whether they hear the whine or not, it will be a sleeper, until you are 3 car lenghts in front of them

I went road course racing once and a guy said to me "all you could hear was the whine of the charger when you were on the skinny pedal, even on the back side of the track"

What I noticed with mine (LD9 charger) is with the stock airbox+bong you could hear it when I mashed it, and knew what to listen for.
After I took off the box/bong and replaced it with a cone-filter, OH MY GOD!
That's what you hear
And only when you're foot's in it deep.
I love that sound.

Sleeper style, they don't see it coming that way.
well i have a smaller pulley and just a filter on the end of the stube, and i can hear the charger as soon as i give it gas, not really loud, but noticeable. And once i get on it, its crazy loud.

I just have a cone filter at the end of the stock tubing and it is LOUD

BlownDanteMustDie, do you have a full exhaust? It's not in your profile if you do. Do you have backpressure problems what the s/c? I want to s/c my cavi but I didnt know if I should get exhaust first. If I do get a full exhaust, I want it to be super quiet so I can only hear the s/c.
don't have exhaust..... not sure what you mean by backpressure problem but functionality wise the s/c seems to be doing great... of course with exhaust I'd get more power, that will come later though...
with exhaust I doubt you will only hear the s/c... bigger exhaust adds sound at WOT even with the biggest resonator

after my rebuild the charger got louder at idle, she wistles some at idle pretty nice, p&p head must have helped it alot along with the bored out t/b of course, mines pretty loud, i love seeing people walking up the street then i mash the gas and give them whiplash
i have an exhaust, p0420 code right now .. not too concerned its just the cat flowing too fast or something (2.5")

All I know is before I got The Supercharger, other car would want to race all of the time, and now that the blower is on there, they stay a couple car lenghs back, I found it pretty funny.

I really want to hear the whistling of the s/c and don't really want to mess with the $750 exhaust setup before s/c it. I heard if you ran it on the stock exhaust, the backpressure from the s/c would create a problem with the engine internals or somethin. I am sure the stock Cobalt SS exhaust is similar to the stock cavi and they don't have any problems so I dunno. All I want is my s/c to roar and whine like crazy. That and better acceleration and speed is the only reason I even want the s/c.
Theres one thing I got you GM ppl beat on as far as a supercharger, and thats noise, nothing like the sound of a vortech
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
lol then listen to that video of me against a v8 300 whp mustang... you can hear my s/c more than that monster:

I beg to differ, I think the Vortech sounds like ass.

I had a 96Z w/gmsc and as soon as I pulled in my buddy's driveway he said "Pop the hood" so I guess that makes the whine quite noticable. I got away with sleeper as long as I was at idle, as soon as I went wide open they knew what was happening.

4 Cams...32 Valves...5 Liters...This Could Get Fun!
I've got the 2.2 Eco S/C with full 2.25" exhaust temporarily of course, except with mine I dont have any whine at all and I have a cone filter at the end of my stock S-Tube. Maybe I should clean it again and see if that works. lol.
