dont listen to him, hes a drunken fool!
believe me when i tell you this, you don't want to be building a turbo kit paycheck to paycheck, especially if the car in question is your daily.... because when the time comes to put it on, and somethings missing, or something goes wrong, you will be SOL with no money to cover it.

its alright i got my old cav to use i was gonna sell it but i decided to sell it until after the car is boosted or i dk i may not sell it at all considering it is a 2200 with the four speed and is pretty good on gas and gas is pretty expensive right now and building my kit paycheck to paycheck is all i can do right now
so im just gonnahave to keep on doin it like that i guess lol unless i win the lottery haha i wish!
believe what scarab has to say!!
I bought all my pieces when i was in Iraq and well i thought i had everything turns out i didnt plan for the aluminum welding process. lol so im without a car for a week or 2.
i can even say for a fact you don't want to go building it like this.... you have no idea the problems you will encounter when doing this... people don't post all their problems on here with the turbo engines.. a car that comes factory with say 110-130hp Naturally aspirated NEVER! goes over well when a turbo is slapped on it and boost is added... every thing in the entire engine was not meant for boost... from the oil passages, the over all cooling of the system to the strength of the materials ect... i have seen first hand what happens when boosting a car... no engine parts broken yet (**knocks on wood**) but just parts here and there... if you going pay check to pay check your car is going to be out of commission for months at a time when stuff breaks...
not to put you down or any thing... or stop you from boosting... but i personally would suggest at the very least go with a GM supercharger kit.... when i ran the GM supercharger kit on my 2.4L i didn't even have a HINT! of a problem... every thing was designed and put together for it, with more testing and what not then any individual could do... but as soon as i added the turbo in, man did the problems come, and come fast!! granted there are 5 other vehicles i have for driving so it wasn't a big deal but for some one as your self you better hope you don't mind driving the old cavy lots...

cool ill see wats up with those about how much do they run? i was gonna get one from ebay cuz i heard they were actually alright quality but they dont put them up there anymore, on their website it only lists the turbo header and its 850 thats a little steep for me i was looking for one that was at least 400 or under so do they make log style ones? thanks!
oh yeah and i just got my tial external wastegate and its awesome! i got it the with the .4 bar spring the 5.8 psi one so i guess 6 psi when i finally get everything i need!
okay so i just tried to screw in the oil feed fitting into the turbo and it would go in a bit and stop i looked and it seems like there is brass stuck in there and it is making the fitting get stuck anyway to fix this or rethread it or something? if not wat stock cars came with a pretty decent sized t3 turbo that i can just order from advance or autozone as a stock replacement?
if you or some one you know has a tap and die set grab that... any threads you can on new or used parts i always run the tap threw and clean them up... makes things SOOOO much easier to thread in.. as even new parts can have messed up threads or in a recent case for me , my sparco seats are brand new but the holes in the bottom were painted over and the paint hardend in the threads and needed cleaning...

thanks dude, im just waiting for my check to come in lol, waiting all anxious
I've built the whole engine from paycheck to paycheck. Sure I've had to work a year and a half on it, and I did end up taking out a small loan, but the end result is definately going to be worth it. I'm down a car right now and I'm still managing to get to work everyday to earn the money.. it'll be 3 weeks until I'm actually driving her again. Just make sure you dont go stir crazy when you dont have your own wheels to cruise around in
it really sucks depending on other people... for anything. A ride, help with your project, everything.
good luck though, the end result is well worth the aggrivation/wait/money... well... arguably

This is a fairly good post BUT...I must not exist, and Suncavi must be a figment of our imaginations as well, because both of our cars have survived AMAZINGLY well with the turbos. He is in the 11s on a stock bottom end and I'm in the 12.50s on stock EVERYTHING and stock trans. Please tell me how this is the engine not going over well.
We have both torn our engines open to inspect them and have seen nothing more than normal wear and tear that is to be expect from any motor, especially a boosted motor. I have personally had the head off of mine and inspected the pistons, cylinder sleeves, and at one point the crankshaft, rods, and bearings. There was nothing other than normal wear and even less wear in the sleeves than I have seen on some daily driven granny owned cars I've torn open before.
I think that in MOST cases NA motors don't last long but there are numerous cases of them lasting a long time, and even thriving with boost added to them. The RB and SR motors come to mind as well right off the top of my head.
Also HRC sells their manifolds seperately. They come with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. i believe they are $400 or so. I'd have to check again though.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.
