Ecocharger problem already!
Thursday, May 18, 2006 8:04 AM
Something in the area of my belt and pulleys is making the worst popping and grinding sound. The belt is routed the way it should be. Its on the correct teeth on the pulleys. yet after it warms up it sounds like the belt is gonna shred! there are no signs of belt wear though?! I did notice that the pulley you replace the stock tensioner with that the belt had gone to the outer teeth unlike the inners on all the other pulleys. I put it back in the correct teeth and that made it pop more!

Im at a loss here gang

Any ideas?

Sounds like a pulley alignment issue. I would say take the pulley that the belt was sitting funny off and make sure the bearings are still good. Where there any shims you had to put in behind the pulley when you installed it?

well after going through everything i have figured out that ot s 100% for sure the tensioner . It seems loose but it bolted all the way down. As far as i can tell all its causting is alot of unwanted noise.

Anyone got the part number for the tensioner? i think i lost it

Well now im realy worried becasue the noise is so damn loud and sometimes it seems to be the tensioner ans sometimes it sounds like its in the charger snout! Im gonna be so damn pissed if its in the SC

Remember that the blower is a big hollow chunk of metal so sounds will resonate through it. I found that noise coming from my A/C compressor sounded like it was coming from within my blower.

Defiently wierd, mine has been perfectly fine since the install. The only thing i'm frustrated about is making a new intake lol. Almost there though.

you know, i had a similar noise when i swapped my cams. the tensioner was fine, it was just adjusted wrong. before you go through the trouble of putting the new one on, you might want to take it in and see if it can be adjusted.

It is a hydraulic tensioner, there is no adjusting it. If all bolts are torqued to spec there whouldn;t be any problems, were you able to put a strait edge across the pulley and make sure they were all in alignment? That would be my first question........

Otherwise that sucks, especially since you had to pay and couldn't get it warrantied....

Yea ok so now im realy realy pissed at gm! and I'll tell ya why.

The stock engine lift bracket that bolts to the passenger side of the head has to be removed to make room for the belt tensioner. The manual says nothing about reusing or having a new bracket included in the kit. The oem one will not fit in the location they say to place it!

I call gm and all they tell me is that no one else has had the problem so ur sol! I KNOW that the bracket from the 2.0 (LSJ) will work but they do not have a part number for it at all

I need this bracket inorder to use the pulley boys tensioner tool

GRRRRRRRRRRR

I'll have to follow along on this one...a little lost. Is this just because you are trying to put a different pulley on? I mean you ran the car and drove to get the reflash....without this?

Listening....

the engine lift bracket is in the instructions , you have to modify the stock 1 , then grind down the head of the bolt

i didnt feel like modifing the bracket or grinding a bolt down so i said F'it
