I got a 97 sunfire gt 2.4l ld9 with about 190000 km or 118000 miles on the engine, i'v had no problems at all with it, it runs great, i got a few mods on it, it's got about 180 - 190 estimated hp at the crank, i can take a stock grand am gt, so its decent. My question is, i wanna drop a stage 1 turbo kit non intercooled into it, just wondering if i got to many km in the engine to turbocharge it, is it worth it? or shall i just get a new engine with less km before i turbocharge. thanks
Well you should really go with an intercooler its really not any harder to install one. As long as you kept up on the matinace just do a compression test and see how it looks.
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
Well thanks for the advice, i was hoping i'd get good news. i can't really afford the intercooler now, well i kinda can't afford the turbo kit either, saving up till me and dad got our shop finished, guess i'll probably have enough by then for both. anyway, thanks
my engine has all stock internals, what can it handle in hp and how much boost can it handle on stock

1. there are countless threads asking this same question, search.
2. there is no answer to what YOUR motor can handle.
well thanks for ur advice. but my engine isn't at all problematic, i have no troubles with it, and have had no troubles at all, and i'm pretty hard on it. As for the boosting, if i do it's not gonna be very much at all because i know enough to know it won't take more than 5psi boost. but i'll probably just wait and buy something thats already turbocharged or supercharged and go from there. waiting a few years and get a cobalt ss 2.4, thats what i'm aiming at. then turbo charge that. thanks, i don't mind the harsh advice, it helps alot.
I spun #4
, completely problem free till that. oh and the few km lean and pistons falling apart and going through the turbo :S
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
you guys arn't helping me, half are saying go for it, the other half are saying don't. but i think i'll take jimmyz advice and work on the internals first, then i can boost the crap out of it if i want. I'm a do it right the first time guy, so i'll do it right.
Ok JimmyZ is right you are planning to Turbo charge a Motor never intended to be turbo charged! Saying that anything can be done with money, time and know how!
The internals are not up to par!
The cooling system is not up to par!
The Gaskets need to be upgraded!
And All studs should be upgraded!
Etc...Etc
I also agree that if you can't build/maintain/fix and tune a motor turbo charged you have no busniess turbo charging anything! Educate yourself and then Play!
Play hard, Drive fast, and Be safe...
