T3 Turbo

I was wondering if i ran a T3 turbo under 6lbs of boost how much turbo lag would i get if any. if it would give me too much lag what would be a good turbo to go with for my 99' z24 2.4l.

Depends on the A/R's of the housings also....but usually a standard T3 turbo spools pretty quickly with little to no noticable lag.

but there are a bunch of T3's that are just too small to be efficient. get some A/R's and double check to make sure you dont waste your money.

What is A/R stand for.

A/R stands for area radius. It is usually cast in to the turbo housings. as an example: one common style of T3's is a .42 compressor and .48 turbine. That is considered a "small" T3.

Pick up the book "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell.

This will help you understand pretty much everything you need to know.

I don't disagree with this statement but the book can get to be a bit overkill in some sections. If you read the older post about sizing of a turbo for a j-body most have come up with the conclusion that a t-3 with a super 60 compressor wheel is the best. And I think its best to get the .48 on the exhaust side. If you really want to get your hands dirty do some research on how to read a compressor map. Super 60's are hard to come by so the second choice would be a regular 60trim wheel.

Majestic turbo <- read under general turbo sizing information to help you along too.

Very small. You will prolly over heat your intake temps too much. With ONLY 6 psi you MAY be ok, but I would getting some with a bigger a/r. For a simple approach think of a/r as a nozzle size. The smaller the ar the smaller the diameter (kinda) Check out a compressor map to help you along.

I don't know what trim my turbo is but it's the same A/R's as those... .48 .42 ....I run it at 8 psi it gives great power, super quick spool up and after running it pretty hard, the cold side intercooler pipes are not even warm but literally cool to the touch. On an otherwise stock engine I think it's a good turbo if you can pick one up for a decent price.
