M62 pulleys???
Tuesday, May 09, 2006 8:28 PM
Ok so I already want a smaller pulley to up the boost just a bit. I know the stock one ot 3.34 right? So what size would be a good upgrade without having to do any fuel mods or a smaller belt? I already have intake and exhaust mods.

3" is as small as you can go without getting a smaller belt or bigger tensioner wheel. I have no other fuel mods. Thats what Im running right now, the car pulls like crazy. Im going to the track tomorrow if the weather is nice to see what kind of times I can get with it.

Well. I cant really say yes because I dont have a wideband for proof but I have been running the 3" pulley for a little less then 2 weeks/200 miles. If you go on the cobalt forums thats what all the guys on there are saying. I was going to go with a 3.1 to be safe but I decided against the modular system and went with the 3" Nest year when/if I build the motor up Ill go down to the 2.8 along with bigger injectors and larger tensioner pulley. If your making the long haul to JCO Bash I will be there with my ZZperformance pulley puller.

I ordered the cobalt/ion kit from pulley boys. The tensioner relief tool is worth it's weight in gold. I also have the adjustable tensioner bracket from ZZ perormance.

The 3.0 pulley is nice, I also have a 2.8 to install but need to get my wideband working first and my 550 injectors put in. I'll have a 2.6 on the way after I get things sorted out, maybe a 2.5 18psi or more sounds like fun

soth florida was less expensive when my friend did the price shopping

and the cobalt guys are seeing 18psi from the 2.8 pullies

the tensioner is a serious bitch though , you got any pics of the tensioner relief tool ??

So i'm assuming the 3.0" pulley is ok to use without having to upgrade further?

how would using a smaller pulley work with the same belt... I mean won't the belt be less "tight" with a smaller pulley ? Maybe I just don't understand how it works

the tensioner will take up some of the length

there is also a idler bracket that moves the idler location to make up for pulley size to keep the same belt

or you can get the part # for the belt in the stage 2 kit for the cobalt/redline , since they are using a 3.0 pulley

you will have to cut 1 rib from the belt though

Phlatcav, if I were you I would def look into some of the GM Stg 2 stuff. Granted you won't be able to use the reflash, but the pulley, belt, and plugs should work like a charm. I don't know about the injectors though,, anyone know if the Balt has different injectors?

the spark plugs wont work , the 2.0 uses a different style plug

and at the 600 cost , its not worth it , when you can buy the pullies for under 200 and get quick change pullies , plus get 2 different sizes

I would have just suggested some of the bits n pieces not the whole kit since he couldnt use the reflash (the best part IMHO), but I forgot about the belts being different.

I agree the quick change would be best for him, but I didn't think he wanted any lower than 3"

Phlat: Intense racing also makes a tensioner/idler bracket, I can't remember which,,, might wanna compare prices first.

But cobaltss.net is a good source for info,,, not all will be applicable, but the way I see it we can never have too much info,,,,, pertaining to cars
