Sleeper with No turbo sound

If you wanted to make a sleeper, is there a management system that allows you to turn boost down to minimum so when rolling normally, you wouldnt get much of the sound and hopefully fool people, and then with the in car turn up the boost at some point, like idle, and there you go, when the light turns green, you smoke whomever? I think that would be cooler than say, getting a "quiet" BOV and turbo, if thats even possible...

no turning the boost down isnt te answer......just leave it where its @.

to be more sleeperish....have your blow off valve go back to the airfilter...instead of open air venting......that will help quiet it down alot and in some cases stop the psssht noise.

and just run a regular muffler.

Or you could get a Dual Stage Boost Controller. Keep on setting low and one high and change with the flip of a switch.

us a boost controller to turn the boost off.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to something called spool

when you're 'rolling normally' you wouldn't be making boost anyway, thus the car would be quiet

if you want to take it to the next step, don't let your BOV vent to atmosphere, plumb it back into the intake system, leave your stock muffler in place and have a dump valve. they have electronic, boost actuated or cable operated cut outs.

if you are referring to 2 different boost levels, then yes most aftermarket electronic boost controllers have a 'scramble boost' option that lets you switch to a higher boost setting with the push of a button

They'll work on an S/C setup I assume? Reliable?

Interested.

^^ I believe so

superchargers have the bypass throttle plate or whatever right? in other words, you won't see boost until you slam it (even tho the boost is instant) its not constant right?

if so, then yes the boost actuated cut out will work (called the virtual exhaust system)

but, if you do see boost constantly all the time even at light load, well then you'll just have a permanent leak that varies its size with how much boost it sees

with a turbo application (when boost comes and goes) the VES only opens when it sees boost (just like a wastegate)

1. have a stock muffler on your car

2. BOV routed to intake tube

those two things are what will make it quiet.

Diverter Valves are an option I know alot of Vdub guys run those they are alot less noise than a BOV, but even with a bov unless your reving its impossible to tell your turboed anyway

^^^ not necessarily...

under light normal driving my turbo spools and blows off. It depends on the setup you have.

Mine sounds like a Semi is bearing down on you... only way to hide that is with mild to no throttle and not letting off quickly to let the BOV go off.

I've surprised a LOT of people who didn't suspect boost under the hood.

This year wil be 3x as much fun.

Also, run the gases taht are coming out of the wastegate when you are at full boost back into the exhaust.

use an airbox instead of a cai/wai.... less turbo whine will escape, you'd be surprised how much this will quiet down a turbo car. Exhaust, well, a cutout of some kind is really the only way to go if sleeper is that important to you... but believe me, having a cavalier thats fast is very often enough to fool 90% of people whether they hear a blowoff or not...

so true. The number one reason why I love my car infact. people dont care weather its turbo or not they hear cavalier and they thinki sucker.

I love irony

yeah, the only boost operated one i know of is the ATP VES, which I have... frankly... while it works, i wouldn't buy it again... I'd rather have a manual cable or a just a block off plate with wingnuts... i hear the electric one have problems too
