Just wondering if there are any alternatives to the Vortech kit RSM sells for the LN2. $4K seems a little high for what you get. I know many will say go turbo but I have my own reasons for deciding to try to find a supercharger instead.
As far as I know, RSM is your only choice for an s/c setup. Email them and ask for a better price, I did that and I'm glad I did.
I do hope that you have been keeping up with what has been covered about RSM here on the boards. It seems like lately everyone has been coming forward with past and present experiences about poor service and their general lack of professionalism.

Yeah, I've been watching but I haven't made my own conclusion about them yet.. I have no doubts about the quality of a Vortech blower, but I can't and won't knock RSM because I've never done business with them. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up shelling out for the kit?
Here's the deal. I have no intentions of racnig my car on a regular basis, if ever, and I'm not boost hungry like I was in my younger years. But I miss my boosted cars and every time I get in one of my buddies' rides, I miss it even more. I just want something to play with that isn't going to drain my wallet or give my motor a fricken aneurism every time I turn around. Centrifugals tend to provide lower output than a turbo, this I know, but they're also easier on the motor at a given boost level, the power band is more linear in general, and the maintanance is a little easier to handle.
What about used centrifugals that I can make brackets and all that for? If I had to I could fab up the mounting brackets, jack shafts, whatever I needed, but a decent kit would be nice.
As I see it, custom work would be a giant headache when dealing with this s/c setup. You'll have to create exact bracketry with very close tolerances, otherwise the belt will not run true and cause a host of other problems. You'll have to find a belt that would work, pulleys that would fit, etc. Not to mention the fact that, the last I heard, Vortech doesn't sell their blowers to individual customers.
The roots vs. screw vs. centrifugal chargers has been debated a few times here on the boards, I'll try and find the thread another time though. I'll look for it later tonight when I'm bored. If I recall correctly, the centrifugal charger proved to be more efficient/effective at creating boost, even though it did work its way up on the boost gauge, unlike a roots blower.
If you like, you can PM, email, or IM me on AIM if you want to talk more. I won't post a price here so if you're really interested just get in touch privately.
I cannot speak for the LN2 kit because I have never had experience with it or read about others' experiences. I wish I could help you but I only have background with the Ecotec and 2.4 kits.
