Hey,
So it's Oil cooler time...... yup been putting it off for a while.
So stock internals, boosted 2200 2001...... I was thinking about putting in roughly a 10x5.5x2 oil cooler in..... with the oil filter fitting set up.
My question is since the oiling system is so much larger now with the oil feed and return and the oil cooler, should I pull the pan and upgrade my oil pump ????
I think I should..... any suggestions ....
Minion, skilz, sunfighter gt, protonus, shifted, spotabee......all whom else are smart...
Thanks
Lee

An oil cooler doesn't cause a need for a better pump. Pumps are for pressure and overall flow volume.
Second off... you have to figure out what your needs are. It's possible to overcool your oil, it has to run at a certain temperature.
Thirdly, the brand and style of cooler you go with are important.

okay so my engine temp is 3 notches above the 90 (which is the middle) in traffic....
I wanted to run it closer to half a notch under 90 (which is the middle)

You are looking at this the wrong way. That guage is your coolant temp, not oil temp. Secondly, you want the oil at its optimum operating temperature, not a line on a guage.
fortune cookie say:
better a delay than a disaster.
When your turboed and sitting at a stop light your temps are going to rise coolant wise, all that heat is just sitting in your engine bay and not flowing anywhere.
As for an oil cooler, look at a B&M or even maybe the RKSport one, dont go cheap and have something thats gonna bust.

I would have anyway. A stock 93 pump and pickup are around 40 bucks. It's a higher volume, stock pressure pump. I look at it this way: When GM first designed the 1.8/2.0 engine the 93 sized pump is the one the engineers felt was safe. When they decided to improve economy and save money in '95 they downgraded the pump slightly. This was probably based on low warranty claims and the knowledge that the engine wouldn't be used for performance applications. They did the same thing with the timing chain... double roller in '82 for reliability, changed to weaker silent link type in 83 for cost reasons.
