Okay fellaz, I'm pretty tied down to getting a Supercharger, Is it worth the money? Is there a crazy amount of difference, or is it just a waste, help me out...please, Thanx!
NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!
i love mine
im glad the turbo gave me nothing but head aches
i wont go back either
The kit is worth the money if you want low maintenance boost. It makes the car significantly faster than stock but like all power you get used to it. I have run mine over 50,000 miles and have not had any issues with it. So I would say it is worth the money.
a GM s/c'er kit is WELL worth the money... i found no sacrifice in reliability... still got VERY good gas milage **when i wasnt foot to the floor ahaha** and good power increase for it....
The First Twin Charged jbody
blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
well, if more than a second differance off your 1/4 mile time is a waste then dont get it
im going s/c, just don't want to deal with the problems that can come with a turbo
so id say yea, it's worth the money
Yea, i've heard very good things about the GM S/C, but what would i have to change to my 99 Z24 ...as far as fuel or spark, or does it run good as it is?
NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!
check the FAQ about what to do on a 99.
the reason i went s/c is that i seen custom turbo sets ups in person. ya they make power, but i personally didnt like the tinkering and exhuast leaks involved.
i got the s/c because: i hate oil leaks and exhuast work (big thing with a custom turbo set up)
it was 2000$ (a deal through RK sport who got it from GM and put it on e bay).
it was a mild upgrade in performance meaning that i know it wasnt as powerful as a turbo could be, but 5 psi is plenty enough power for my daily driver with all the mods i done.
GM built it (well not for my year car, but it was a flawless kit and the best kit on the market to boost a non boosted car- it comes with everything if u have a 2000+ 2.4l.)
another thing-= price. just price out a jackson racing s/c set up for a focus or a honda and the gm s/c is a little lower( not that , that matters, but with the gm kit you get more stuff from spark plugs, to computer reflash to everything in between).
ya basically i was looking for a decont gain in hp, more fun daily driver , and a worry free boosted set up. and i have gotten that and alot of people looking at me funny when i open it up
.
for the last 2 years i havent touched the s/c, hadnt had one issue.
need anything that the FAQ dont cover, just ask.
Friend if you want trouble free boost for the streets, the GM SC is the way to go. Inclusive I am not is the US, then different gasoline, altitude, humidity, etc..... and the car boosted is no more a simple jbody with some mods, it is really another car...... boost is really addicting

ELIOT. Now.....boosted.
i agree with what everyone has said here. maintenance free, easy install, looks factory, gives great performance that can be expanded upon. i'm running 7psi boost on my 99 on the stock pulley and it runs flawless and fast. and yeah the mileage is still there if i'm not given it!! also nice thing is the boost is there from about 1500rpm's where as most turbo set ups, unless your running a really small turbo, won't start spooling till around 2500rpms. best bang for the buck i think.
believe me, homebrew custom turboed cars can be a real pain in the balls... if you want a setup that is as maintenance free as possible, and don't mind not being a dyno hero, then the gm s/c is a perfectly fine choice. I'm not even saying there's anything wrong with a turbo, but they can be a lot more finicky and issues are a little tougher to diagnose sometimes, so if you're limited in wrenching/diagnostic ability, my advice would be to go with a supercharger. Now i'm gonna cross my fingers and hope none of the turbo guys take what i said the wrong way and jump all over my ass about it

Hehe, best part of this thread is that no turbo guys have posted yet
I'm pretty much convinced to get the Eco S/C, just need to get a decent price on it now
Okay, S/C it is, where could i get one? Every site i go to that sell them dont show a price, does someone know a site that has a price on it, or does anyone know how much they are? I want one sooooo bad, and staying here in iraq...yea, i'll get one!
NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!
Id only get one if there was an M90... the M45 and 62 just arent enough to saticfy my taste for overkill
www.paceparts.com has both Eco and LD9 set ups and prices and costs for shipping also.

NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!
i had both... woulda went straight to turbo from the beginning if i had to do it over...
s/c was cool cuz of low maintainence an easy install.. same gas mileage an i wasnt so afraid of blowing it up..
turbo, if done right, runs just as smooth with no check engine lights.. no boost lag, NO HEAT SOAK!
$ wise.. i broke even, spent 2300-2400 on both setups, turbo is MUCH quicker..

dumped an boosted at 8psi.. daily driven.
Has anyone gone with the RSM supercharger? Any good or bad info on the kit? Thanks?

I think if you do a search you'll find all the info you want on the RSM kit. I'll leave it at that!
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
ive had mine for almost 2 years now, about 30,000 miles on it. So far not a single problem with it, except the dealership didnt install the vacuum lines properly. I went from a 16.1@82MPH to a 14.7@91MPH with just the addition of the charger. I got really good results some people didnt get as good of results. Ive noticed that the automatics seem to respond much better to the charger. Maybe its because they have taller gears than the manuals, and the autos take much better advantage of the low end torque made by the supercharger.
