alright the external wastegate i have has to fittings for vacuum, one on top of the wastegate and one on the side..i know one goes to a vacuum source to control boost, but which one and where does the other one go?
The side is where you hook up the vac source, the to is the vent. You can also install a fitting to the top to hook up a MBC.

you dont have to hook anything to the top...just leave it open. hook a vacuum/boost source to the side fitting.

It the vent for letting out the pressure when the WG opens. If you restrict it/block it it'll cause the wastegate to not open or open late.

ya just leave the top open and clear. and hook up your boost signal to the side.
