.84 hot side? on built 2.4
Wednesday, March 29, 2006 4:13 PM
I realize this question is borderline rediculous, and am fully aware. I came across a deal last week that I could not refuse, a brand new master power t61 straight t4. Only problem is it has an .84 exhaust housing (stg 3 wheel). My head will be ported, with ss valves guides, and secret cams with a 7k rev limit. Bottom end will be forged .020 over. However, even with the lacking flow that a ported head should have, I am unconfident that this turbo will demonstrate much of a usable power band. Can anyone support or refute this assumption? Thanks guys

if you go .20 over with a ported head I bet you could pull it off. also your only intrested in drag right? why not a small shot of nitrous. youll never have another spool problem.

What does .20 have to do with anything? I assume you mean .020 overbore on the pistons? I dont see how the .020 overbore will have any kind of effect on it... but thats just me....

Just that tad more displacement..

hehe, tad bit indeed. Its like 2.40 to 2.43
i'm not too sure that .03 liters will come in handy too much, but you never know hehe

A T4 seems like overkill on our cars no matter how built it is. Most T3/T4 hybrids can surpass the 450+ mark with a .63 or .68 a/r turbine.

I say pass...

doesnt the larger area help with compression?

Quote:

The compression ratio is a single number that can be used to predict the performance of any internal-combustion engine. It is a ratio between the volume of a combustion chamber and cylinder when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke, and the volume when the piston is at the top of its stroke.

Who said I cant swap the housing for something smaller? lol.

Evidentally, you didn't...

what I mean is that if there is more area then isnt the engine going to push more air meaning a faster spool.

bigger engine faster spool

I can understand that...

The only reason I made that quote cause you used the word "compression".

Uh, right.. Anyway, I'm going to be giving it a shot. Worst comes to worse, i'll just slap a smaller housing on there and ride. Spooling 10psi on my old 48/60 by 2900, I see no reason why I shouldn't spool the same amount of boost by high 3's, low 4k. It all comes down to the head and cams I guess.

3" Vband, oh yeah

are you sure that thing is even gonna fit? Thats a huuuuuge bitch!

It doesn't matter how much air your head can flow if you are shooting nitrous through it to spool it up. Nitrous = artificial CFMs through rediculous air density.
GT30/40R on my 2.0 sunbird.

True, but for the price of a nitrous kit, I could have swapped the housing three times over and be on my way. I dont want to be spraying everytime I race either.

Oh really? Nice P-trim turbine wheel. Maybe you can find a P-trim .68a/r T4 housing but nothing much smaller if anything.. again you will have spooling issues. If you want to spool it normally you are going to either need to swap the wheel/shaft and balance it (money money money) or raise the compression of the engine and run lower boost (depleting the purpose of a large compressor.)
All honesty, it would cost about the same to run nitrous as it would a smaller turbine set-up and the nitrous/larger turbine/more boost way would yeild better results.
Just my two cents.

True again, I was not going to give it a full rebuild though if I did swap anything on it. I was just goign to swap the p trim .68 housing on it and call it a day. I guess nitrous will be an option.
