S/C on a '99 Z24 - Fuel Related Questions
Thursday, March 23, 2006 3:00 PM
I just purchased a GM S/C blower for my Z24. I've got a few questions regarding fuel delivery.

1. I have heard that some people have gotten away with only the Cartech 2025 FMU. Others have said that you need to have the FMU in conjuction with the Accel AFPR for the LT-1 to regulate base fuel pressure. Anyone know for sure which is true?

2. Also, I don't have a wideband setup, and can't exactly afford one at the moment, so is there any way that I can get the fuel delivery tuned well enough to where I can drive the car safely under boost?

3. My other option is to swap in the 00+ PCM. I already have a '00 PCM reflashed for S/C. Would it be mroe work to wire in the PCM compared to the FMU? And would there be an advantage to either one?

Right now, I will be running the blower on the stock pulley with the GM S/C injectors if that matters at all. A 2.6" pulley and alcohol injection will come later down the road.

I'm sure I will have a few more questions, but that should at least get me going so I know where to begin. Thanks in advance to any replies!

run the GM s/c injectors, FMU and check your spark plugs. (run the plugs i posted about in the FAQ). wouldnt hurt to upgrade your fuel pump.

safest is to do the 00 computer swap, but there it isnt that easy to get the BCM,FUEL level, tach' and i forget what else to work. i dont know what exactly goes into it(seen it done once on a friends car), but it worked, and he said he had to do a bunch of stuff.

need anything else just ask.

you dont need a FPR. stock one will do fine.

You have it about right, I assume you have the 2K+ starter, get the LT1 AFPR, injectors and definantly the cartech, it is a must.

make sure you got a wideband o2 also

the adjustable fpr would only be needed if your running to rich at idle , then drop the base pressure

Wideband will have to wait. I'm running low on cash and I can't swing $400+ right now. I'm just going to check my plugs. Once I get the 2.6" pulley, then I will probably get a wideband.

well a wide band is smart since it will save you a motor down the road

and you cant tune the car with out 1

unless you spend money at a dyno place to tune it

Yeah, I know a wideband is a good idea, but I know of 3 people now that have had the s/c on their car for over a year with no wideband tuning done, and their motors are fine. Just gotta lsiten for knock and check the plugs. Once I get the smaller pulley, I will be concerned, but with the stock pulley, its not making THAT much boost.

But hey, if you have a wideband you are willing to let me use for a week, I'd go for that :-)

i can tell you mine ran lean , and i ended up putting 36lb injectors in it to correct the lean issue

granted some dont have problems , but its not worth the loss of a weekend changing a motor out

plus , the flashing lights are nice , LOL

Well, after about 6 hours of work, I got the S/C in and working. The FMU is coming tomorrow, so I turned the AFPR up to 60 PSI and took it for a spin. I could tell it was running rich b/c it was doggy from idle to abour 3500 RPM. Plus I shot some flames :-) Above 3500, it ran nice. Man, I love the power and the sound. Can't wait until tomorrow when I can get the fuel better tuned. I'll try and get some pics up and maybe a video or two tomorrow.

Also, when I get the FMU installed, what should my idle pressure be, 35 or 45? I know someone told me, but I'm at my home computer now and don't have any of my history. I can't remember which it was.

And I remember someone saying that my fuel pressure should be around 70 during boost. Does that sound right?

Thanks guys!
