Ok, I don't know what the problem is, i can't figure out for the life of me why my a/f numbers at idle are showing lean (15.9-16.9) . It used to go all the way down to 18 and - - -, but now its around the number i stated above. I have adjusted everything i can think of. Im just afraid that i am running to lean, but my numbers while normal driving are between 14.4-15.2 which i know is good. And under boost, they go down to the 11s-12s sometims hit high tens.
So if anyone can help me that would be great, im using the AEM UEGO wideband and im running the HAHN stage 2 at 7psi

Idle has to be lean.

What do you mean idle has to be lean?
I was told my some, that there idle a/f numbers where around the 14.5 range? So i don't understand why idle must be lean? Please explain?

Shifted: Thanks for clearing that up...
Why does some ppl say that, you have to have a 14.5 while idle?

because some cars idle that rich...normally those with aftermarket computers systems or actually chips.
Your numbers are still perfect....your more paranoid than I was

That can be a good thing at times though. LOL.

Hypsy: so you were having the same problem? or should i say wondering the same thing when you first went turbo on the Eco?
Shifted: Your using the same gauge arn't you? What does yours do, does it do the same thing mine is doing?

I was paranoid till I discovered my car loved the boost and didn't care what the AFR was.
Ron's readings will be different because he has a 2.4L

It should read between 14.2ish and 15.6ish at idle, which is what the computer strives for to pass emissions not because it needs to be that rich or lean, its not going to hurt your motor to run lean at Idle ( unless its so lean that it causes a misfire ) All its going to do is increase combustion temps to above 2500 degrees and creat a bit of NOx
( oxides of nitrogen ) I wouldnt put much worryin into it. if your car were stock and running lean like that it would probably mean your computers got a learning disability

A good scan tool and some time looking at the fuel trims would tell you what the computer is doing exactly at idle. Oh and if youve got a check engine light sometimes it will make the computer run in pretty much permanent open loop or whatt hey call "semi" closed loop which could cause that as well.

Well lets seei have people telling me two different things...
#1 that the car is suppose to run lean at idle and #2 that im suppose to see between 14.2 and 15.6
The numbers i have been seeing are around 15.5-16 and sometimes 16.5 but i havn't heard no missfires. So if i need to get them around 14.5 how should i do it. I have tried everything i can think of. But if i don't, i guess im fine with it reading lean, since you say that its suppose to run lean at idle? But if it suppose to be lean i won't worry about it to much, since i see the readings im suppose to at WOT and Normal driving.

MY car idles at 16:1 normally when it's sitting on the dyno waiting to make a pull. I have the same setup as you.
I think you need to choose who to listen to. The one giving you the numbers a car SHOULD run while CRUISINGand claiming those are idle numbers or the one with the kit you have and has done more research and testing with it than anyone except Hahn themselves and is telling you what the car SHOULD AND DOES run while IDLING.

my car has ALWAYS idled from 15.0-16.1 AFR. Normally from 15.5+ though. Either this is another change for the 04 model year or GM has some @!#$ up programming that has way too many variables.

In no way was I saying you were wrong Hypsy.
All I know is that on my boosted ecotec with the same fuel setup as a hahn kit the car idles like a stock cavalier a/f ratio wise.
14.2ish to 15.6ish is what I told him because thats what the computer wants not what the hahn kit wants and or should or shouldnt be.
Regardless everyones agreed he doesnt have anything to worry about.

Could this be something different for the 04 modles, possibly?
I know when i first start my car. The air/fuel numbers are alittle rich then go to stioch as it idles down but then it goes down to the 16 range... Is there a way i can make my car idle alittle faster... Maybe that has something to do with it...
![](http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h81/EcoEnvy/Sig2-1.jpg)

Your car doesn't need to idle faster. It is supposed to idle at around 900-1050RPM.

I was just wondering, cause as my car idles down the a/fs get leaner. So i thought maybe it had something to do with it... My car idles around 900-1000 rpms... It was just a thought.

Yes, that it was it is supposed to do. Stop worrying about it.
