P&P and boreing

like i said i am a newbi at this but port and polishing what dose it do how would it effect the power i would get and is .30 over for boring the avg for a turbo system?

Port and Polishing basically is a process where they make the ports on your cylinder head bigger to put it in simple terms. Making the intake side bigger allows more air to enter the motor, making the exhaust ports bigger allows more exhaust flow to exit.
Only thing I can't remember is if they polish one side or both sides and if one side which side it is.

As far as the .030 overbored, you sure you want to bore that much?

.040 is the "max" you can go with replacement pistons. .030 is fine. Even .040 with boost is fine.

Is it recommended that you bore when you turbo?

You get oversize piston when the cylinder wall are oval. It's not something htat you have to do when you have boost. It doesn't if you have boost or nitrous or N/A, you bore the cylinder to get bigger piston because the cylinder was oval.

ok seriously, not to be a douche, but there's this thing called the search, and called google.... the answers are right at your fingertips all the time, all you have to do is type in "port and polish" or "what does head porting do?" and literally thousands of answers will show up. Posting newb questions like this is a very dangerous crutch to start leaning on.

Exactly!! ^^^^^^ Thanks Scarab I thought I was the only one who thought it was a pathetically retarded question to ask when a search button is RIGHT THERE.

Start paying attention to who is answer lately. It's basically Mfk-233, NJHK, and newbs. Should tell you something about the state of the JBO. We can only answer the same question so many times before we give up.

IF it was every 6 months that would be different. When the question is asked every 6 days or more often, as is often the case around here, you get tired of seeing it. Especially after 3 or 4 years.

Generally if you have a book in front of you that says "Answers" there is no need to raise your hand and ask the teacher, until you have read the book and you still have questions.

Otherwise the teacher is going to go mad and jump out the window, unless he drives a Sunfire and lives in New Jersey.

ok so there shouldn't be a forum for cavaliers anymore it should just be a frequently asked questions web page.seriously if you don't want to answer the guys question just leave it alone and don't reply
Re: P&P and boreing

lol, I agree. However, if I think the question is absurd for a reason like this, I just don't answer. I say 'let the semi-newbs answer the newb questions, let the experienced answer the semi-newb questions, and let the vets answer the real questions'.
My only real problem with people repeating questions instead of searching is that the decent questions and discussions are pushed off the front page so quickly, and sometimes die because of it.

Also, NJHK, you polish the exhaust side, the intake side should be ~60 grit to 'mix' the air/fuel.

And as far as boring is concerned, you have to remember that there is only so much wall, so if you take it all away now, you won't be able to work it out later down the line when you need to do a rebuild. So, if you plan on keeping the engine for a long time, the less overbore the better.

so if its for cavs, and you own a grand am, couldn't i ask you the same question? just a little fyi, i'm the guy who's writing the OHV build guide for this site, and I will begin work on an OHV motor build up shortly with friends from the Jersey J's.... so there

Now yes, you can just go and answer the ridiculously basic questions like that, or you can encourage the guy to find his own answers.... kinda like that "give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish, he'll eat for a lifetime" thing... Its ridiculous that in this day and age with information so easy to access that people still come on here and have to post the most inane and basic of questions before running a simple search. Sure, it gives certain postwhores something to do but as Notec said, it also pushes GOOD info into the archives that much quicker.

Beyond the fact that this total newb question is in entirely the wrong forum.... should be in newb forum or performance, not boost.... I guess my point is that if you can't figure out how to search for information yourself, how are you going to figure out how to do anything to your car? Thats like someone who needs help installing a K&N drop in filter saying he's going to build a 10 second drag car all by himself...

Thank you. That's what I thought originally but didn't want to give false info.

I would have a respectable local machine shop that builds engines do it.
I just had one of my cylinders sleeved and I saw it today, and it looks flawless. unless you look close, you could barely tell they bored it out, and put a sleeve.
The reason i say a shop, is because each case of sleeving will be a little different since the amount needed to bore out, and replace may vary. So, I just let the machine shop order the right part. They are the people with the rulers that measure to the .0001 mm. haha.

Huh, what'd I do wrong scarab? I was just giving a suggestion based on some experience I had today with my ohv engine. Trying to tell the guy you can't just buy sa "generic" sleeve for our engines. Maybe the hondas that already come with sleeves, but not ours, where any sleeve is going to be custom...

Oh, just notices the time stamps, were you talking to the post above mine?
