New turbo opinions
Sunday, March 05, 2006 10:41 PM
Im looking into redoing my turbo setup along with my exhaust. I was wondering if a t3/t4 garrett .57 .63 turbo will be too large. Any of you running this size turbo. Is the spool up gonna be doggish? I will be doing a patriot stage 2 during the summer along with comp cams turbo grind. Just want some opinions and experienced knowledge. Thanks guys!

I'm running a .60/.63 which is slightly bigger and it takes a bit to spool that bad boy. If you go open down pipe you will have no problems though!!

see i can handle that. Im in the chicago area so right around 600ft above. Not sure exactly but i know thats right about midway airports level. What type of air flow mods do you have captain obvious. LIke intake and exhaust. What type of manifold/downpipe/ cat or no cat/ etc... just some specs. Im gonna do 3" downpipe no cat all the way back. The manifold ill port a little bit. But eventually im gonna get the patriot stage 2 head through hypsy with the turbo grind from comp. id like it to spool around 3500 or less if at all possible i know it'll take some work but the plans are for alot of hp. What are your numbers at the wheels? do you have a dyno sheet i could look at. Thanks

i actually just got finished turbocharging the car yesterday. so i havent dyno'd it yet. im running the ebay turbo manifold with a tial external wastegate. my downpipe is 2.5" flared to 3" no cat and a dynomax 16" resonator. no mods to the head and just a filter on the intake side of the turbo.

yeah im getting the ebay mani again i was looking at cnfx but 850 is a bit much if it was 600 i would do it. Im gonna do the 3" and port the fudge outta the mani from ebay its just not clean on the insides. I was also gonna do a tial 38mm or a turbonetics 38mm wastegate. I was also gonna make it dump to the atmosphere or do a y so i can either route into or dump it. Im not gonna run a cat its for sissies that abide by the law. Anywho can you hear that beast spool down? How loud is the spool/ suction?

well my exhaust is so loud right now and my wastegate is dumping straight to the atmosphere, so you can barely here the turbo spool down through the exhaust, but when you get on it omg! its just so freaking loud. i cant even describe the sound haha. it doesnt sound like a 4 cylinder thats for sure.

yeah the dump tube to the atmosphere is loud by itself. well get it dynoed i really want to know haha. Regardless im getting that turbo i can get it 475 shipped so im getting that.

Where are you getting the turbo from? I'm shopping around for one too. Maybe that size too, or a little smaller.

My friend knows this guy from mitsu online or some shiat and he says that is one of the only turbos he can get. My friend was gonna buy that and swap his .48 turbine housing on that one but i want free flowing head / exhaust. when i get more details ill post.

bump, wondering if there was an update about where you got the turbo? or if anyone else know's a reputable dealer or place to buy a good turbo. for around $500. I'd like to get it coated, but i guess i can send it out after I get it for that.

what trim is this turbo?? that has a major factor on spool time

Compressor Specs:
- T04E housing 2-3/4" inlet 2" outlet
- 60 trim T04E compressor wheel 2.29/2.95 53lb/min

Turbine Specs:
- T31 4 bolt outlet turbine housing available in .48, .63, and .82 A/R ratios
- 76 trim T31 turbine wheel (stage 3)

thats the one im looking at getting. with maybe a .48 housing i dont want to wait till 4k to get full boost. Right now with my tiny a$$ turbo i get 8psi at about 2500rpm but it tops out at about 210hp minus recent mods and tuning. I really think i gained alot from tuning a bit i want to go back to teh dyno but im gonna wait for this new build.
