I've got the gm s/c on my car, so I was under the hood reving the motor listening to it and heard this strange sound so i looked at my belt and when i rev it up hard the belt is trying to come off of the tensioner pulley but would slide buck on when i let off the gas. my question is does this mean that the pulley is going bad or what. s/c kit has less than a 1000 miles on it. 2.4 motor
If you are running the same belt that all the GM S/C guys are (meaning if it's not a hair too big) you might wanna look at the tensioner itself. It is possible for them to go bad and allow the belt to slip.
I'm running the belt that comes with the kit
There's really no reason for it to pull off the tensioner though. If the tensioner is shot, then the belt can start slipping but shouldn't try to travel laterally.
Have you changed any pulleys or anything? It sounds as though one of the pulleys is out of line and pulling the belt sideways. Have you done anything to the alternator, A/C, or anything else in the system?
I've not moved any of the pulleys and looking at it they all look to be lined up
