Just wondering where most people are mounting their turbo timers. I just installed a full-din Alpine head unit this winter, so putting it below the radio is out. I was thinking about making a bracked to hold it in the area of my window defroster vent, or maybe tucking it under the dash somewhere.
Opinions/Pics?
If I had it installed, I'd have it probably underneath my center console so people can't see it...less likely to give someone a reason to break your window and steal them a nifty early christmas gift. Basically, I'd keep it from plain view.

meh.. mines mounted right on my steering colum.
Duct tape it to your bare leg... and remove when you need to leave the vehicle.

Nothing useful to say? Try acting on that instead of wasting band-width
For the rest of you, thanks for the opinions. I never really looked at it as a "reason" to break into a car, but I guess it really is. Thinking about making a "cradle" for it to mount right around where your right knee would be while you're behind the wheel. On top of the steering wheel surround was my first thought, though.
We could make black metal brackets for either side, and mount it centered right below your HVAC chris, It would be out of the way of your knee's and go with the flow of the intrament pannel. Also keeping the wires running out of sight. Just one of the ideas i thought about.
i think he was jsut kiddin but hey haha waht do i know....
Thanx Charles
you can kinda see mine right next to the orange fuzzy dude above the vents. I wanted access to it and I wasn't worried about hiding it bcause its so small.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Actually, plenty of useful things to say. Your car is your own, it's setup differently than other cars.... so here is my "something useful".
Get in your car. Sit down. Look around... you know what you're comfortable with and what your needs are with the timer. Do you really need to see it? Can you just set it and forget it? Is it important to be within reach or is a viewable distance ok?
Do you need your air vents? Anything you can relocate? Do you care if it's flush mounted, hidden, or just "there"?
.... get the picture? Customize your car the way it was meant to be done: sit in it and visualize.
I don't think a little bit of levity in the forums needs to be responded to with such a rude remark... it's not just an information forum, it's a community. If you can't take a bit of humour then you should re-evaluate your social skills.
Good luck.

Chris,
You are one of the smartest, most informed guys I know on this site, If I were you I wouldn't offer this douch (that obviously can't take a joke), any more USEFUL information, it's a waste of YOUR bandwith at your house.
I can't believe that this guy would ever say that about you.
I'm disgusted

Anyways, I double side taped mine right to the cluster face....looks good and hides the check engine light for stupid EGR.

Agent Omega, just to straighten the thread out before anybody jacks it over some petty issue.... I have no issues with you, I just didn't appreciate the comment.
My first post was casual humour.
My 2nd one was actual advice. Only you know what timer you have, how big it is, and what your needs with it are.
I've grown annoyed with the "how did all YOU guys do such and such a mod". Nobody has free thought, and the few people that do on this site are lifted up higher than the rest for their ingenuity, imagination and talent. The problem is - we should ALL excercise that train of thought.
I personally also have a sunfire and what I will be doing is mounting my Profec-B boost controller and Greddy turbo timer (they match) to the underside of the radio bezel, under the hvac... they will sit back a bit but be clearly visible in a driving position.
INITALLY I was gonna get an APEX-i unit and set it and forget it and stuff it up under the dash.... but that's cuz it's the size of a pen, and ugly. The matching timer and boost controller now have inspired me to integrate them into my dash.
Those were MY needs. I spent a small chunk of time sitting in my dead car looking around the dash trying to figure out what to do with the little bugger. Like I said we are all different.
Good luck with your install.

Wow thats a good spot under the radio....i wish i had such good ideas.
BoostedCavi-
I've been on this site for 6 years and have a LOT of useful info to give, as well as products to offer to the communtity (try checking our website for a SMALL fraction of them.) I've known Sunfighter GT and his car a lot longer than you have. SO, instead of fueling the fire, how 'bout letting US solve this? Thanks
Sunfighter GT-
I know it's my car, and yes I've spent a lot of time behind the wheel this winter as well as elbow-deep in ripping her guts apart for this new setup. I asked for opinions b/c when fabricating, sometimes it helps to have an outsider's opinion. With all the useless posts on this sight now-adays, I saw yours that "sounded" serious (no smiley face) and thought it was. Sorry to jump down your throat.

As much as I wanted to keep that spot for my CD book, I think you're right--it'd look much more "uniform" if everything was in line like that. Making the bracket out of stainless and painting it black would be a piece of cake. Thinkin' I might go that route.

Scott, you realize that's where I would have put it before I saw the pics of yours... I just wasn't sure how to handle it along with my S-AFC.
As I said if I went with the APEX-i unit I would have tossed it under the dash where it belongs.
