Ok I'm finally going to vent

Make of this what you wish but I'm going to let it all out, I've been defending this kit for I dont know how long and I'm not anymore I'm going to expose it for what it is.

So almost a year ago I decided to get the RSM stage I supercharger for the eco. After a questionable ordering process and barely making the deadline in which to be shipped to me before my install date I got the thing on in May of 05. Most of the screw up was RSM and High Rev going back and forth about whos screw up it was, to date ive heard 4 different stories none of which I really care about. When I finally got the kit the intake elbow didnt fit for the tb because the kit was made for a 2003 eco which have more hood clearance which I did inform of when ordering the kit. Thankfully High Rev was able to make it happen with parts off other cars, which should not have been even a step that had to be taken. Also a Dayco was the belt included which is not as good as the goodyear gatorback which I modified on my own to fix the belt slippage issue

I made the mistake of opting for the reflash instead of the Vortech FMU, the reflash is supposed to work with your stock injectors and somehow magically give you enough fuel to work with boost. I don't pretend to know everything about engine management but simply upping the duty cycle on 24lb injectors without raising fuel pressure does little at best. I had an AFR of 15.0 and misfires all over creation. Rsm blamed it on my fuel pump? Please.

To fix this oversight I converted to 2003 rail with 310cc injectors and an adjustable FPR all of the sudden AFR was right where it needed to be and the misfire went away, however unless the car is warmed to 150 degrees I cannot drive it right away when I start the car, otherwise it stalls. This extremely annoying but something that I've had to deal with RSM just wants 300 dollars to reprogram my ecu, they would prob just screw it up even more so I'm not going that route.

Going back to the belt issue, after about 5-7k miles the belts wear out and when they do they start to fray along the edges, this isnt really a problem as long as you check frequently and have spare belts, however the radiator hose that is included with the kit to sit further down in the engine to accomodate the blower sits right next to the belt, there is little tolerance and when the belt frayed it cut a groove into the rad hose. This is simple engineering all they had to do was reroute the hose or belt further apart and if that couldnt be done at least put stainless steel braided cover over the hose so it doesnt get damaged, I thought of this why couldnt they? Not like its that expensive.

Next the belt tensioner, this is an area of madness for me. Mine continues to fall off because in the brillant design there is nothing preventing the bearing from coming off of the tensioner, when asked if there was a fix for this rsm simply wanted to charge me 80 bucks for a new one that is still flawed in design. So I'll have to go to home depot or some machine shop and pray I can find the right parts to make a solution to the problem.

When everything is on it and not leaking or falling off as long as its cold it runs great. However when the temputure goes much beyond 70 the boost goes down and down, during the days in the summer i might get 3-4 psi out of it. Theres really nothing to keep the temputure down on the charge pipe, I will of course have to spend more money on actually cooling it down so its suitable.

I can deal with the engineering flaws because I can come up with solutions for them, but the fuel management and general support for this kit is intolerable. Its a great kit if you can fabricate your own parts and are good at working air fuel to your disired range. However for the rest of us that dont want to tinker for months and want it to run right out of the box, this is not the kit for you. Its far more trouble than its worth because you have to do your own fuel system, your own technical support, and your own mechanical engineering.

For anyone considering this kit, DONT

Finally you give up your RSM supporting ways and admit the truth.

I'm proud of you.

Now go run those RSM 15's.

Honestly matt youre a great guy, you've given me tons of help and I would do the same but this is where I need to say "I told you so" even before you got the kit I had second guesses on it and advised against it, but you had your mind set and knowing you, once that mind set is in the ONLY thing that'd change that is a 2 liter of livewrie and 3 hrs of Transformers... but good luck to you man and if there is anything I can help with, let me know

Wow, everyone is coming down on RSM, as they should. I sent them 3 IM and 3 TBs for one 62MM TB, they told me to put the value as 10$ to save the duties, which I did then when they sent the TB to me they put it down as 380$??? There is no way the TB is 380$ USD, and duties were 48$. Screw them.

they suck ....... PERIOD....... as I said before their blower kit literally BLOWS, and my 2200 would smoke there 2200 anyday.

Turbo vs. there blower...... anyday....... auto x or not.

crappy companys, make crapy products, they are almost in the XS power league.

leaking drive units, crappy engineering..... I'd buy a maxboost kit before RSM kit..... at least you'd get some power....

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
yes the blower it self is nice, but leaks........ (just from what I've heard)

well think about it, you drop 3000 at most on the max boost kit, spend the extra 1400 on upgrading all those crappy parts that come with it (turbo, BOV, injectors, FMU)

end up spending around the same amount as the RSM crap kit, and your turbo boosted with the potential for 13's, not 15's and a hand full of headaches................and a craptacular reflash.

come on, just to turn up the boost with the RSM kit, it's like 1400 alone, haha for the upgraded drive unit, FORGET THAT, nelson ain't getting my money ever again.

haha and all my RSM parts I bought off of someone else for cheaper then RSM sells them for, WOOT.

Well, I haven't really been too pleased with my RSM kit either, but at least I only paid 1500 for it, and it was intercooled, and came with 310cc injectors. And for the tuning, the gm reflash (LD9)works great for it as long as you use 310 injectors. I should be ordering an eaton in a few weeks. Then I'll just get a smaller pulley and injection, and be fine with it.

gonna vouch for matt here, being around him for like 8 months i can honestly say he was always fixing something, the fuel was never right and something was always broke. Glad to hear he finally is telling how it is, honestly his car turned me away from S/C on my Cavy cause for the money and problems he put up with his numbers were low on the dyno. I feel bad for him cause he is a good guy and he got a piece of trash

man and for all thoughs who were saying how RSM s/c'ers are sooo much better then then GM ones? i guess not... not in performance or quality .... i do feel bad for Rodimus Prime though, he has a very nice looking car and from what i have read of his posts he has tryed every thing to get this car working and it just doesnt want to....

The Vortech blowers are superior in flow and charge tempurature to Eaton.

The leaking oil can be attributed to undue forces on the bearings and seals.

translation: crappy support bracket and extension shaft design by RSM....

Sorry to say it, but vortech blowers rarely put down impressive results at the track on 4 cylinders.... they just don't blow enough air until its too late... if anyone has ever seen a vortech setup dynoed on a 4 banger the powerband is ridiculously peaky... sure it'll make 200-220 hp in some situations but the low and midrange is generally terrible.Sure, it flows like a turbo at redline, but it spends the entire powerband "spooling" where a turbo is free to spool thousands of rpms sooner. Worthless on a 4 banger.

On a large displacement car that already has a lot of torque down low, thats a different story.....
