Whats up Rick.. Hey I was talking to a GM rep at last years bash along with Mat(blue s/c cavy) and he said that the fluid really didn't needed to be changed.. He said the fluid in there should last you a lonnnnnng time. He did warn, if you do change it that it stinks BAADDDDDD lol so be careful not to spill it on you.

As long as you're not spinning the supercharger faster than the stock speed (AKA not using different pullies), it's not necessary to change the oil for at least 100,000 miles (If I remember correctly, they say something about it on the back cover of the installation manual for the LD9 kit). Using a different pulley will spin the supercharger faster which in turn breaks down the oil faster. At that point, I'd pay attention to the rpms you're spinning the s/c at (not the car's rpms, but the rpms of the s/c itself) and then change it according to how much faster you are spinning at.

It's less than 4oz. and you have to take the charger off the car , take out the allen head screw on the front (look at the side close to the engine and you can see it) and turn the charger on it's nose.

All I know is when I took mine apart to polish it I made sure to drain the oil into a measuring cup and there was right at 3oz.s in it. So it must of left the factory that way because I've never had a leak and have never had a problem since. I've put over 4k mi. on since May of last year.

Same, when i drained the oil from the s/c to maintenance it. I measured it and it was less the 4 oz as well.

I just called Eaton and talked to "Kevin" and he told me it's 3.5-4ozs On a Cavalier M-45 supercharger because they are an independent design from their NORMAL M-45.

So that should put an end to that.

maybe it runs cooler because the bearings arnt all f'd up.

no, i had to reuse one.

the kit is pretty compleat, however a "normal" m45 is diffrent than ours, so the rear bearing is diffrent.

if i could redo it i would just order a frount seal, and a cupler, and thats it.

oh ya you have to shave some materal off the cupler to make it work, its alittle to big.

sorry for reviving a dead post..... but I was curious.

What viscosity/weight number is the GM nose drive oil?

if it could be attributed to any standard number.

Not to bring this back from the dead, but to answer your question, there is no true information on the bottle itself about viscosity. Also, just to clarify a little better, my supercharger held 8 oz exactly. I had emptied the blower out for well over 2 hours to get the most out of it, and it came just shy of 8 oz. Here is a picture of a new bottle of supercharger oil, which is 4 oz, dumped into a small container (left side) next to the oil I drained from the blower (right side). Little dirty after roughly 30,000 miles huh? Keep in mind that I spilled a little of the old oil when it dribbled down the side of the container.

holy crap ur s/c oil was dirty!!! Mine wasn't like that at all!!

But it is a good idea anytime u have it off to do an oil change. Cause its a good 4hr oil change to re and re it...lol.. who wants to pay me shop rate to do that!

Can you post pics of where you drained from and where you filled from?

Thanks.

I'll be doing that with mine once I have to change my alternator since I have to take the damn thing off...

See your sig?.......it is an allen screw on the pulley side of the blower. You will see what I am talking about when you have it off the car. Like stated above, you have to unscrew the allen screw, and drain it from there. Stand the blower up on the pulley itself so it drains it all. Then, after a half hour or so, kinda spin the pulley by hand to recirculate a little more oil, and more will come out. Once all is drainged out, you can stand the charger up on the TB side, and fill with the oil through the same hole. Good luck.
