I hear everyone talking about upgradeing there block and most people knows what each mod will do. but Ive been interested as to what goes when and why.

I think the piston ring lands are the most common thing to break.

Not leads, lands...

Lands are the edges of the pistons, the area between the piston head top and the top of the first ring is the land. It breaks off at the edge of the piston. Its actual pieces of the piston breaking off, since thats were combustion is the most violent, and where the weakest part of the piston is.

From what I've seen, heard and read about J-bodies, it seems that the rods are stronger than most people think they are. It's the pistons that give out, as stated above.

You can't always say what "horsepower" it was at, because some people have "freak" cars that do more than they should. Usually it's a "circumstance" that leads to failure.

I thought that was the problem in the ohv's.

Theoretically gm tested the ecotec and the rods gave out first.
Head gasket is pretty good as it's an mls gasket.
Personally once you're pushing over 250 hp I would look at upgrading some internal components like rods, pistons, head gasket, and valve springs.

well I refuse to due the....yeah so Im gonna be makin like fo hundet to the wheels what do you guys think I need what I am looking for is the first step or steps. now my biggest concearn is throwing in upgrade internals and blowing somehting else thats small.

whats the word on head gaskets?

also I belive another huge problem is that there is very little proven results, at least with the ecos. I think theres only 3 or 4 guys (on hear that have really tested the block)

arent the HAHNS making 400 with pistons rods and springs? hell if I can get away with 300 with those mods i would be happy.
