Ok well i am on to my next project of building the bottom end up...
I am looking to get Forged connecting rods, lower compression pistons and a new crank... a stroked 2.5L one if i can (i have seen 1 from manta part and was told about another one)
But my questions are, for the ones with the 2.4L's with built bottom ends what are you guys using? and how much boost are you running?
And is there any thing else you think i would need? (beside the head as thats a different topic)
i am looking to boost about 20psi into the engine...
and also what is our compression ratio stock? 10:1?
and also last do you think it would be worth getting say Jbodyperformance to build me up an engine? or should i just do my own bottom end and my own top end (head work)?

silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno
I was personally thinking about boring mine, not stroking (shorter stroke is said to be better for higher RPM stability) Forged rods and pistons obviously, but you could bore the block to fit 2.3L pistons which makes a 2.5L engine size.
yea im waiting till Karo gets on MSN so i can chat with him...
do you think if i did just bottom end (crank, pistons and rods) i would be able to push 20psi?
well and a new oil pump ahaha

yea im getting the head ported and polished along with the supercharger... as it would kind of be almost pointless to boost more with a stock head....

well the machine shop will be finishing up my engine this coming week and i got eagle h beams, wiseco 9:1 pistons with .020" overbore, stock crank, 2.3 oil pump conversion w/ removal of balance shafts and brand new water pump (mine as well change it and start 100% new), gonna be running 10 psi with 50 and 65 shot of nitrous this season hopefully.
Shifted....I'm almost positive it is the other way around....the 2.4 crank in the 2.3 block makes a 2.5. B/c the 2.4 has a smaller bore but longer stroke, and vise versa...I'm pretty sure. But Josh, with your boosted application, I wouldnt worry about stroking it, just get a forged bottom end in there...considering your high amount of boost....just rely on the force feeding to make power. Also, I wouldnt worry about the crank, the stock crank is pretty damn strong.
You can get 2.6L with the 2.3L block, bored .030", using the 2.4L crank, and align boring the mains to fit the 2.4L crank. of course there are other things involved. The 2.4L is a pretty long stroke motor, and 2.5L is about the limit for it's size due to it being a "tall" motor, unlike the 2.3L which is more "wide". the 2.4L cylinder walls are getting pretty thin above the 2.5L bore. If you want more info, go to www.quad4forums.com and look around. That's the site for Quad4 and TC enthusiasts.
Fst Cavy - so you think my crank can take it? :S im just worried if im boosting 20psi it will twist on me...

20 psi on the stock crank... hummmmm he is right you should talk to the guys on quad4forums they are very experianced with doing this stroke job.
personally on my bottom end i am currently having
stock compression ceramic coated forged pistons, eagle h beam rods, and a balanced crank being put in..... along with a 20 over bore
Sorry...

Mike K, 20+psi, cryoed stock LD9 crank, very successful.
Also, the stroker uses a 2.3L block, 2.4L crank. I don't know if anyone has stroked a 2.4L block...you'd need a custom forged crank (don't run a welded crank or offest journals on a boosted motor)

better a delay than a disaster.
Your crank will be fine up to 450whp or so I believe
Blew it up

2.4L Motor- 9.5:1 (1996-98) 9.7:1 (1999-02)

well i think i have desided to stay with the 2.4L no stroking.. but as for compression now... 9.7:1... is there any one who makes 8:1 compression? or are people still getting reliable usage with 9.1:1 compression (which is what i see all these pistons are good for)
and for the crank im still going to get a forged one... dont want to take a chance other wise...

Josh,
You should be fine with 9;1 compression but if you want 8;1 I can get them custom made for you..
hey Karo... im going to probably end up getting all this from you just not sure if i want to do this or not... i mean i have put $6000 into this engine and not sure if i want to put any more in it... but next time your on msn ill chat with you and see what some of my options are...

I have Venolia 9.5:1 +.040 pistons, Eagle rods and a knife-edged crank. Just need to have the engine assembled

not sure why you want to stroke a twin charged sunfire.. don't you have enough torque already? haha
i'd just build it up with forged parts, low compression pistons, i wouldn't worry about stroking it, you stroke a turbo motor to be able to spool faster, and since you have the charger.. it'd just kind of be overkill.

yea if you look a few posts up i said i decided not to.. not for the torque reason... but for the reason of it not being as stable in the high end... not to say it wouldnt work but yea

Hey Karo I'm in the process of a similar buildup but I have an 086 head, if I buy .040 over Wiesco pistons what cr will I have with the 086 head? I'm thinking that going from 61cc head to a 48 cc head would change cr from 9:1 to 10.3:1 does that sound about right?
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.

Stroking a 2.4 is not a good idea.
How much boost someone is running means nothing in terms of how much power they are making.
Your stock compression ratio is 9.7:1
I have never seen anything from Jbodyperformance, just a bunch of internet gossip. I have no clue if they are good or bad.
If you want to know what i'm using look in my registry for a list of parts used in my motor.
That pretty much covers all your questions....
