just a little update
Saturday, February 11, 2006 10:17 AM
my 2.4l is getting all the work done to it

port and polish head
bored 20 over
balanced crank shaft
milled head i think 9.2 compression but i could be completly wrong i need to ask the machine shop
eagle h beam rods
and over course i already have the gm supercharger

for right now i am keeping the stock pulley i will be going down to a 2.5 with straight alky injection

any estimates on power when i get her back?
i also have no cat and a dynomax superturbo muffler
and a complete secret cam swap(both cams)

Well since you are lowering the compression a bit, but bigger bores, and with the P&P head you'll make a little less boost, so I'm guessing 190whp.

So...... .020" over, and shaved head...... what head gasket?

what was the compression on the pistons?

sounds like you have higher compression....... unless you started with 8.5:1 pistons....

stock compression i dont know what the compression is in the first place for the z24 it is either 9.0 or 9.5:1 what ever the case by milling the head the machine shop said it they are raising the compression another .2 over stock

labor and parts about $4500. because we are also putting all new everything on the rest of the engine

so with a built motor.... because of the gm charger.... even running 10psi with the 2.5" pulley..... you guys still think he will ONLY hit a crappy 220whp.............. BUILT..........

wow........... I didn't know the charger was so hp restrictive !!

so your prolly looking at 9.7:1....... depending on what head gasket you have.

Its only a m45 charger........ not alot of volume come out of them........

Having a built engine doesn't give you any extra power. It's changing ratios and measurements that add power, which he hasn't really done. He's just allowing more to be done in the future...that's where the extra power will come from.
Also, I believe those estimates were with the stock pulley in mind...

i am having the compression raised a little, ported the head, balanced the crank, that is the power gain mods not to mention i already have the secret cams.

are you saying that wont give me extra ponies??????

it'll give you extra HP, but the little you raise the compression and the balanced crank aren't going to add a ton of hp..the p&p will prolly give you the most of the gain, and it still probably be a TON..

I say if nothing else other than the GM charger are in the future, up the compression, new high compression pistons. Maybe 10:1 compression, that would be pretty cool.

which is why i decided to go turbo instead of the charger.......... yea the charger is nice for people that dont want huge amounts of power but for me I like to go big.

boost will be soon for me....
Re: just a little update

After everything I did on my motor , with 6-6.5 psi from the charger, 216.3 @ the ground is the best I've got. After I get rid of the FMU and SAFC and tune with the Tec3 I'm guessing around 225 will be all it'll make.

That's why I'll be dumping the charger and going with GT3076R.

so if i am running the 2.5 pulley with the straight alky injection you dont think i will break 220. lol more boost still means your flowing more air.........

Your flowing more air but your also creating more heat which means less power.

Eaton recommends a 14000 rpm MAX on all of their superchargers because the delta temp. starts to spike rapidly after 12000 rpm.

If your using the stock size crank pulley the rpms. on a Eaton supercharger will look like this...

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.80 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 14293 (supercharger rpm)

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.75 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 14553(supercharger rpm)

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.70 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 14823(supercharger rpm)

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.60 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 15392(supercharger rpm)

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.50 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 16008 (supercharger rpm)

6.455 (crank pulley)
divided by
2.40 (supercharger pulley)
x 6200 (engine rpm) = 16675 (supercharger rpm)

So according to Eaton the M45 with a Factory supplied 2.8 pulley was already maxed out when it was bolted on the car.

It is true you can cool the IAT down with water/alky/methanol (which I was running when I dynoed my car) but your just not going to make the power you could if GM would have given us a M62.

i need to really dyno my cav , with the gain from the s/c alone , i went from 16.0 to 14.38 , and ive still got room to be faster , im guessing im over 200whp

and that is with a auto trans , and full 2 1/4" exhaust

hence why built motors + gm charger is a waste. go turbo or find a way to mix int he gtp charger stuff like one of the threads was saying.

good post. thanks for the info.... well when i get the car back i will have it dynoed. then i will change out the pulley, and put the straight alky injection in. i still think 250 is a good estimate.

is there any other cooling options avaible to us m45 guys????

You could always run a small shot of nitrous to cool the charge, and pick up some power to boot.

I picked up an M62 from the wrecker last week, hopefully it will someday make it's way onto the car.
