Turbo Exhaust questions
Tuesday, February 07, 2006 10:45 PM
Ok, here's an idea on my new turbo design. Instead of having a very very loud exhaust with the big exit pipes for turbos, can I have a 3" setup with two 2" exhausts for exits? I'm talking about the exhausts like the stock ones on the J-bodies or the dual exhausts from the sunfire GTs. what you guys think?

I'm going to have a 2.5" exhaust with dual 2.25" tips.

i dont know it might be restrictive once you separate them into 2 pipes , i had dual 2.25 pipes before my turbo and it was not good. now i have a 2.5in from the downpipe back into a flowmaster super 40 series and it gives it a great sound.

I should have clarified more. Mine will be 2.5" turbo back, single pipe to a flowmaster 40 with single 2.5" in, dual 2.25" pipes out.

well a solution with out giving up flow is .... OBVIOUSLY.....

a 3" system turbo back with a 25" resonator, a high flow 3" cat, and a 3" muffler of some sort.

right now I am running 2.5" downpipe to 3" back .... with a resonator......... it's REALLY loud............ but it's side exit.....

once I add a Cat and a muffler..... I expect it to tone down quite a bit.......

but you gotta love the 3" sound side exit.............................sounds like a mustang gt............ but coming out of a cavalier............

awesome to see peoples faces when I drive by and spit fire ....... WOOT.....

but I'm talking about splitting it into two exhaust exits close to the end of the pipes. Maybe right after the cross beam in the rear.

i think it would work but you will feel a difference in performance if you make it 3 inch all the way back minus a muffler haha with a turbo you need the highest flowing ehxaust you can. To a certain extent. 3" back is desirable.

1 3" pipe has about the same cross-section area as two 1.125" pipes
