Hey all...
The time has come for me to setup my oil return line...
I can't decide on how to do it... I was going to tap the block below that hard water line on the back of the motor- But, thats kinda permanant & I don't want metal shavings all over the top of the oil pump- The motor is still in the car.
I have an automatic- so theres only a small gap between the oil pan & the trans back there..
I would prefer to tap the oil pan, I have 2 of em- so thats a plus-- But I think I'm going to have trouble getting a fitting on the pan & have it route the line straight up through that small gap....
Is it okay to use a 90 right there?? I was going to use a 45- but I would have to angle that fitting & I was afraid that there wouldn't be enough threads left on the oil pan to bite. I am using a stainless braided -10an line.
I have looked at all the Oil return pics I could find- but found nothing solid..
Any suggestions or opinions are welcome. Thanks!
im very interested in wut peeps have to say on this
i can tell you there isnt alot of room in the pan to clear the trans , i had to ditch the 1st pan i did
i also had to put the fittin in at a slight angle , plus i had it welded up after i installed to make sure it stayed sealed
pics can be found here , i forget what page they are all on ,

I definately know how tight it is back there... I have been staring at it for 2 days.. I see it in my sleep..
I want to use a 45 to keep the drain as straight as possible- it would definately have to be angled to squeeze through that gap... I was just worried if angling the 45 would cut down on the amount of threads that can bite into the pan at the bottom...
A 90 fitting would be so much easier- But I don't know if that will flow very well...
Im dying to drive my car again- this crap drives me up the wall.
You and me both.......I was stumped on my oil feed, but i figured that out......i do have some ideas for the return such as tapping the block as well like SKILZ did.....but now that i look at 97cavie24ls....i might try that or ponder that idea as well......im still trying to find solid pics that would that would change my mind on the return.....im lost too.....
Mine is 90 degrees straight up with a barb fitting on it. We ground most of the fitting and the 90* elbow down to get it to fit in that gap between the pan and the trans. Then on the turbo we had to use a 45* fitting to get the oil drain in the right place. Here's a pic or two of the location, I don't have a pic of the drain we set up:

Hey Shifted.....Is that a 90 degree pipe fitting that you have in the pan....it looks like it in one pic but I cant make it out clearly..
i used a 45 to help keep the angle straight , and had it as high up in the pan as i could get it

do you have any issues with any oil leaks........in your opinion do you think that 90 works well for oil return flow......
Its been fine so far, I haven't had a leak yet and its tapped in there, not welded (yet anyways). I do have a small leak, but thats because I need to put a gasket on the turbo. You need to grind down the fitting where it meets the pan, and grind down the pan a little bit so it gets right up to the edge of the pan.

That kinda looks like hard gas line.... ?
Is it aluminum?
If a 90 will work just fine- then, I have no problem... I can definately get something going..

i gotta install it in my friends 97 s/f
i should be able to take pics if i remember if still needed
