Block strength
Saturday, January 28, 2006 7:19 AM
Hay thanks for the help yesterday on the cr question. Here is another. How much boost can the stock 2.4 block handle? Got all the bottom end goodies together and getting block machined hopefully soon. I want to sleeve it but am wondering if it is a waste of money.
The funny thing about this project is that the car is my wife's. WE WATE HONDAS !!!! So we want to eat a few up.

Thanks again

The block itself is very strong, people have made over 500hp on non sleeved blocks.

10 lbs of boost with a stock block and injectors will hold? I know the compression is pretty good for boost

He was asking specifically about the strength of the block, and its breakability. Block only, nothing else. The bare block is good to a considerable amount of horsepower, provided the other modifications are made to support it, like pistons, rods, bearings, fuel, cam(s), etc.

Nobody here has ever broken one because of over powering it.

So no one here can answer that question.

Weak spots inside the Shortblock: Rods and main bearings... generally a bad oiling system.

Weak spots in the block itself - nobody knows. They've never managed to break a crank or a block from power.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I know all about spinning main bearings. This is the second motor in the car. DON'T LET THE GOVENOR KICK IN. I let er rip one night chasing a young punk in a integra, and the govenor kicked in twice ( on the highway ) and that was the end of that engine. Building whole engine to support hopefully up to 500 hp but it will probably only see 400hp. Better to build em a little stronger.
