GM Charger Question
Friday, January 27, 2006 8:36 PM
Alright so I'm getting ready to get the GM charger kit for my 02 z24. My questions concerns the engine. I was originally planning on going turbo and building up the engine, but I decided I rather go charged. Anyway, my question is would lowering compression in the engine help out with the supercharger in the same way it helps with a turbo. I'm still learning so I'm not quite sure about it. I want to eventually do some engine work to make it stronger either way, so I was just curious if going to a lower compression will help or not. Thanks for you help.

Yes. Lowering the compression helps in likelyness of detonating and tuning as well. 9:1 compression is a good compression to run under boost.

With the charger I would go with 11:1 compression. Even 11.5:1. You're limited with the charger so you can up the compression to compensate. I'd rather have water injection with 11:1 with the charger than 9:1.

with the GM charger you dont want lower compression... stay with the pistons you have or if any thing go higher compression...
