I am thinking about buying the Hahn kit used and will be having the turbo rebuilt. Since it would be easier to switch to a 20G while being rebuilt, I was wondering how people like the 16G vs the 20G for daily driving. I would do occasional runs down the strip but mainly just for daily use. Does the 20G take too long to spool up or isn't it too bad? I had a T3/T4 on my Z24 and it didn't really bother me so will the 20G be close to the same?
I'm going to assume you're referring to a Mitsubishi 16G. I run an EVO 16G on my DSM, and most of us in the VR4 club all run 16Gs, some run bigger models from places like Turbonetics or RRE. For daily driving, the 16G is pretty decent. It spools fairly quickly, in fact, I noticed there's not much more lag compared to the stock turbo. And, I'm running up around 12-15psi and no issues. I'm not sure how the 20G is for theese engines, though.

a 20g is a big turbo man. You would have tons of lag unless you had a full build and even then it'd still be laggy. You are best off with a ported 16g. There is also a Super 16g i believe.

Yes, there is also a Super 16G. It's offered by RRE (Road Race Engineering). That's where I get most of the parts for my DSM. I have their link in my profile. I'm not sure of the specs, but we do have a guy in the VR4 club running one and he's doing pretty well with it.

Both the Super 16G and Super 20G from Hahn are nice units. The 20G will, by it's nature, have a longer spool time. It is a fairly good sized turbo made for higher HP applications.
The Super 16G is a great turbo for daily use and drag passes. I'm running it daily AND making consistent 12 second passes.
Let me know if you need anything from Hahn. I can get anything they carry.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

If you want to do a little searching, Garrett produces a turbo, the GT28RS, affectionately known as the Disco Potato. I've been searching for the spec sheet, but no luck. From what I've found, it's a pretty impressive piece. High boost, quick spinup. At the least, it's been described as "sick". Might be worth looking into.

The disco potato is a beautiful, well engineered turbocharger... and they know it when they sell it to you.

I have a friend of mine knows this guy that's running one on an SR20 equipped Datsun 510. I'm going to talk to him and see if he can get me the specs. I know that his motor is all stock except for the turbo and intercooler, and it's putting out some nasty power. And I think one of our VR4 buddys is getting ready to install one too.
