Saturday, January 21, 2006 7:22 AM
i was wondering if i could get 300 whp out of my ecotec with 10 psi turbo, correct tuning, new internals, cams and other stuff. or will i need more boost. i don't have a turbo installled yet.

it could be possible, Skilz is at like 255WHP i think, and hes only at 6 PSI with a full built engine.

We'll know soon. I got a bunch of parts heading my way in the near future for a montster build that I've been dreaming about for almost 3 years now. I already made 260WHP on 12PSI so 300HP isn't beyond imagination.

I would say it would be as easy on a built LD9 as a built Ecotec if done right.

The key to getting high hp on low boost is getting the motor to breathe better. Head work, cams, intake manifold, TB, big charge pipes, good flowing turbine and exhaust. Also, in conjunction with the right parts, rasing the rev limit could be the biggest benefit to making hp with low boost.

im pretty sure if put a p&p head on mine i would be pretty close if not there. you dont need internals, but if you want your car to last long you should. also you'll need a clutch to hold that power. i made 292 at 16psi and then returned with a lighter flywheel and clutch and made 270+ on 12psi. it can be done, just get a good p&p head...cams wont hurt either.

headwork, cams, intake manifold, turbo HEADER, throttle body, charge pipes, big intercooler, big exhaust, COMPRESSION, tuning, tuning, tuning.... you could make 400hp on 10psi... It would be expensive but no goal is unreachable.

Paco, I'm also interested in knowing what you're looking to get out of your car... I may be interested.

paco, im interested too.

300 hp with 10 psi might be doable but it would probably be easier if you upped the boost (with swapped internals and valvetrain).

Your main focuses would be getting the motor to breathe, compression level, fuel type, and TUNING.

what kind of turbo were you intending to run? if you're going to run something like a T3/T4 hybrid with head P&P, cams and such i'd say you could have a chance of it.

i have a T3 out of a early 90's saab. i was planing on doing a slight pnp, comp cams, over sized vavles. and i wanted to run a ZEx wet shot or direct port. but i want 300 whp with out N2O.

Then your turbo is probably internally wastegated, in which the addition of a boost controller does you really no good. Most of those wastegates are adjustable for as much boost as you will be running.

^ i see. is then any programer or computer that can ajust fuel based on boost and cad adjust me timing. something like a SAFC with a build in fmu. that i could change timing with. i don't want 8 computers in my car. too many things to mount too many buttons. i don't care that it will look messy. i just want an all in one, i thought this may help with that and i don't know if i am going to get an externl waste gate down the road

In theory it should be easy to use. I mean of course you have to learn it front and back but thats with most products you put in your car. I dont use a product unless i understand it. I would highly recommend using something that gives you a table of settings to tune a boosted motor. You will be able to tweak the most out of your motor and driveability will be better. take the time to learn it you'll be thankful afterwards.

Just do your research and buy a complete kit from DIY Auto Tune. From then, it's almost as simple as installing a piggyback like E-Manage.

i would say on a t3 from a sabb, it is goin to be hard to hit 300 hp on 10 psi unless alot of other stuff is done like they sais above. it u went t3/t4 it would be more understandable to me at least, i am going 18 on my ld9 with a t3/t4 and i hope to make about 360 or so with a @!#$ tone done!

The 54 trim Garrett T3 (Garrett GT1752) we used on our turbo honda sedan supports up to 350 horsepower efficiently. It was an internally gated .54/.48 standard T3.
