I'm sure the solution to this question varies depending on what speakers/subs/deck/amps you have, but I'll be stupid and ask anyway lol...
Can anyone tell me what is the best combo of bass/treble frequency's to achieve loud non-distorted sound instead of really loud bass. I can adjust the frequency on my bass (70-80-90-100-130-150-180) and treble (10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5). Honestly I have no idea what changing the frequency levels is doing. It doesn't sound like anything is changing really. Of course I can also change the balance and fader (from -6 to +6) and the level of the sub (0 to 15). I have 2 4x6's and 2 tweeters up front (all 4 powered by an amp), 2 6x9's in the rear (powered by 60wx4 alpine deck) and a 12" sub in the trunk (powered by it's own amp). It seems I either get it to be ALL bass which I hate, or so loud that it sounds distorted. Oh ya I also have an option of turning 'DEFEAT' on and off, but when I turn defeat ON, I can't mess with the frequency levels. It's all confusing the hell out of me lol. Can anyone help me out? I'm kinda new at this and any info would be great.
alpine deck i assume??

Ya it's an alpine... Its pretty sweet I just don't know how to use it to it's full potential haha.
first off your post is kind of confusing, i think your getting even your options a bit confused.one thing yoru not going to get is a smooth sound because your little 4x6" up front can't play accurate midbass very well. u really need something bigger then that up front. this is one of the reasons your getting bass heavy music because your missing midbass. your 6x9's in back being played off the deck wont help in the midbass department, and amping them with more power is just going to create other problems that wont help you either.
first thing i would do is set everything to flat or off, then start with yoru crossover, set your crossover on your highs to play as low as possible without distorting, (do this with the bass off,) now when that is set, set your sub crossover at around the same point as where you set your highs to. so for instance if you can get your highs to play down to the 60hz range, set your subs crossover at around 60hz. then. then if you have an eq built in start at the lowest frequency and slolly adjust it one way then the other and just listen closely, youlle notice the changes, stop it when you think it sounds best, then move to the next frequency and do the same, once your done, go back thru and do that again. (im assuming your headunit has a built in eq. if not disregard this section)
