the 6.5"s will be better.

really depends on the quality of the speaker, 4x6 are generally made for drop in applications, wherea as some 6 1/2" are built that way too. but if your going 6.5's go with a componet set, that will usually give you your best sound

first off it's what is? no wuts

Componet sets give you a more clean and direct sound, you would have a woofer or midrange speaker aka the 6.5 and then a tweeter mounted close in proximity to this speaker. Also freq's can be separted using a crossover (usually suppied) to allow better sound

If you have a full range speaker such as two way or three way speaker, the sound is not as clean.

Good brands for componets set:
Infinity
Polk
MB Quart

If you have the money try and find a good componet set if not you can get a good two way speaker that will sound ahella better then factory.

if you want to use the stock bracket and just mod it a little bit and not have to build a seperate bracket to house bigger speakers (not trying to sound lazy....just being practical if you dont have the extra money for materials or care about what size your front stage is) Pick up a set of the polk 4x6 plates or the infinity plates. I have the polks and both have a 4" round driver and a seperate tweeter on the same plate and the polks i have sound pretty dang good powered off my premier deck for now. they should sound better with a good amp.

if you use one of the adapter plates, or create your own for larger speakers in the front doors, is there any problem with the speaker rubbing the back of the door panel once installed? it just seems if you add an extra half or 3/4 inch to the space in front of the factory hole, it would be very close to the door

Stay away from plates they dont sound as good as a coaxial set. But sndsgood is right as always the best way by far is to get a good component set. Infinity makes good component sets and kicker just came out with some new ones that sound amazing. the kickers are a little pricey but sound really good.

Mine are close but I have about 1/4 inch of room between my woofer and the back of the door.. that's plenty of space. I doubt that 6.5 has that much excursion lol
