Bypassing Passlock System
Monday, April 25, 2005 11:47 AM
I am working on installing a remote start system in my Sunfire and I forgot to order a Passlock bypass module when I ordered my security system. I have two methods, which I can post for interested readers, on how to completely disable the passlock system. My question is, what does the passlock modules you get actually do? Do they just bypass the system for when you remote start, or do they completely disable the system? And if they don't completely bypass the system, is it worth the extra money buying the modules to have the system operational??

Thanks for your opinions.

They usually bypass the Passlock for a second to start the car.. then re-enable it.. so it keeps your car from being stolen

I'd say keep it... considering those modules are pretty cheap compared to replacing your entire car

Lenko - Would you look at these, the first method says it disables the system completely, can you tell if the second one does. From previous post, you seem to know what you are talking about with this stuff. Thanks.

Method 1 - Completely disabled
Method 2

No.. no they don't

Method one disables it... method 2 doesn't.

Or... DEI 555L modules on Ebay for $19

The modules should be universal when it comes to working with remote starters aren't they?

Going method 2 from above would be more wiring, cost me nothing, and not be quite as pretty. Getting one of the units off of ebay would look cleaner under the dash (but who looks anyways) and just take a week to get here, and shouldn't have the problems that seem to come up from time to time with method 2. Hmm.

Well thanks again Lenko

I've got a bypass module that I'm not using anymore. You pay shipping.

spend the money on the bypass kit.....all you need is for one relay to "act " up on you, and that's it......your baby won't start. By far, I think the best kit for that is made by Trillogix and is called PLXR , if the module acts up, it will NOT affect the starting of the vehicle with your key, and it will also bypass passlock 1, 2, VATS, and the new Ion/colorado/canyon passlock hybrid systems.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence you tried!
