I searched but didn't see a direct answer to this.
On a 96 Sunfire, factory door locks, what type of system should I have?? Negative trigger, positive trigger, or reverse polarity?
Thanks guys.
youve got 5 wire reverse polarity.
Thanks, but I don't like you now because that means I got more work to do than I want. I am replacing an old Hornet system that didn't have any relays between it and the lock/unlock wires, hoping that I was going to get lucky.
Power Lock ----------------lt. blue either kick panel
Power Unlock -------------white either kick panel
PONTIAC, SUNFIRE, 1996, Power Lock
Non keyless cars, locks are 5wi (type C) and they are mastered from the passenger side switch. Keyless cars, locks are positive trigger (type A).

Do you have Keyless entry?

I can't say right now whether or not it has factory keyless entry, the Hornet system was installed on the car before we bought it.
Here is what I know if it makes a difference.
The previous alarm was a Hornet 730T and was directly wired to the blue & white wires
I believe that the car has a remote(keyless) trunk unit
There are two wires running to each lock
There are three wires to each switch
Wouldn't the keyless entry option show up in the RPOs, looking into that now.
Found the RPOs, hidden under the spare tire cover, on another GM vehicle AU0 is keyless entry, which I found on the sticker. Are the codes the same from vehicle to vehicle??
So, I guess as long as I switch the new keyless entry to positive trigger, I should be able to hook in where the old one was, right.
Also, where is the keyless module thats in the trunk??
Its attached to the inner rear wheel well- driverside of the trunk, under the carpet....

From Clifford Tech...
Determine door lock type... Remove door lock switch from Masters side ( in our case passenger side )
A) If there are 4-6 wires make connections shown in door lock / unlock diagram for reverse polarity.
B) If there are 3 wires, connect a voltmeter to ground and probe each wire. If the voltmeter shows +12v while activating switch make connections for door locl / unlock for positive trigger.
C)3wires again.....connect a voltmeter to +12v and proba again, if the voltmeter shows 12 volts again connect door lock / unlock for Negative trigger.
If the car has 4-6 wires at the passengers switch there is no factory keyless entry. If there are 3 wires it has keyless entry.
As for the relays, most newer good quality alarm will have on board relays for switching polarity and what not.
Hope this helps a bit
