battery problem
Thursday, April 21, 2005 6:05 PM
sorry i dont know if i posted this in the correct forum, but i thought it was the best fitting. anyways
i had an amplifier that blew for some reason- i dont know why i hooked everything up correctly-im positive, but right after it blew my cars battery died (i didnt leave the lights on or anything- the only thing that i can think of that could have been sucking up juice is the alarm (the stock one) and it was cold i dont know about that either). the first time it went dead, it was not started for a day, then 2 weeks later it started to go dead after 1 night and then it eventually turned into a couple of hours (the battery should not have had this problem- it was only 4 years old and had a 6 year waranty) so then i went to the store and bought a optima yellow top b/c i wanted it anyways and now i had a reason to get it. so i got it and put it in and it was fine until i didnt use my car for the weekend. it went dead again. then another time after this it went dead after not using it for one day. now i dont let my car go a day without starting it and it hasnt gone dead since the last time (a couple of months ago). i want to figure out whats wrong with it. i dont know if it has anything to do with the amount of power i was using for the amp or if it was the alarm using power or if it had something to do with the cold weather. i never listened to the subs without the engine on and the amp and the wiring is removed.

get your alternator tested...and test to see if anything is drawing current while the car is off.

that be my first step. if your amp and wiring is not in the car right now u know that can't be the problem. alarms dont really suck up any juices unless there is some sort of short circuit somewhere.

thx for the info ill get it tested soon hopefully that will solve the problem. about the battery size ive only seen 2 or 3 different sizes- the big one ( most common one) will fit (the other sizes are small) and u dont have to do any modification to make it fit, allthough the prop rod might stick a little when putting it down or pulling it up
