Just Installed the N2

Hey Everyone,

Well I'm pretty excited I just purchased and installed the Pioneer AVEC-N2.

Looks amazing, runs great, sounds great.

Only one problem. I knew this when I purchased it but when the vehichle is in motion the N2's screen will not display the DVD video. It will however display it on my auxilary screen.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of any ways to bipass this feature? It does more than just stop the video display. it also controls some options for the navigational unit and configuration menus.

I know that one wire is tied to the ground of the e-brake. And it must see that +12 and 0 volt changes to operate properly. It also runs a wire to the speed sensor and it uses the GPS antenna to detect if the vehichle is in motion. As a test while driving I pulled up the e-brake one click and the screen came on for all of 100 meters before the video turned off again and it popped up a display saying that it detected the vehichle in motion.

So any ideas from anyone?

plug the rear video out into the rear camera in. it displays a message on the bottom saying objects may be closer than appear but from what i understand it works. i havent tried this out yet since i havent sold one yet at work.

To clarify, basically the control unit uses a gyroscope to know when the car is in motion. Because of that, there is supposedly no way to "fool" the system into thinking it is parked and display the DVD feature.

^^^ I had wondered about that, but haven't had anyone check that way yet.

You could always purchase another screen, mold it into the dash as the rear screen, and use that one that way. Then you can also view the Vehicle Dynamics on the main unit too

there is a way to bypass it, but it can really only be done by a pioneer service center. buddy i know said it is just a matter of programming on the actual unit. im sure it wont be long before it is posted online somewhere!!

Yeah, we are picking those up at my work too, and they are pretty much impregnable to anyone but a tech. i wouldn't bypass it for the exact reason the feature is there. i don't want some as$clown on the highway watching the matrix while he barrels down the road at 75 instead of seeing what he's about to hit.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Well just to let you know the video out and back into the camera would work. But actually the sad part is that I'm not as interested in this feature for the DVD. I have a seperate screen for watching the DVD. I'm more interested in having it for the GPS navigation. That was the main reason I purchased this unit and wished that I could access all of it's features while the car was in motion. Like have a passenger enter in a new route for me, or look something up rather than pulling over and pulling up the e-brake. I understand that this is all for a saftey feature and I am very happy that they went through all this trouble to make sure it had this safety feature I guess I just want some basic features back for navigation, they can leave the movie off for all I care .
