FINALLY! My 15 inch is in.
Wednesday, April 06, 2005 6:00 PM
Today, I finally got my 15" flip-down installed. I put it where the dome light was (I have a sunroof, btw). The front edge of the mount is just overlapping where the light is. I'll have some pics tomorrow of it. Even managed to do it without taking the headliner out...mainly because of the sunroof...I was having a hell of a time lol. looks damn good though!

Here's a few I just snapped. I-SPY was the first DVD I grabbed out of the house last night to test, so don't hold it against lol (If Gone In 60 Seconds was closer, it'd been that). I still have ti clear up where the dome light is (I'm going to remove the bulb, and use the lights on the Tecvox). I also have an IR transmitter to hook up too, for the headphones for the rear. I was hoping it would be big enough to cover that hole, but it isn't...so I'm looking for ideas... any? lol. Other than that, I now have to hide all the wiring and stuff.

And my car is a mess lol. The first shot, I had to sit in the back seat, put the camera on the rear deck in the window, and click til it worked. I couldn't fit it all in the picture any other way lol.

why thank you OH, you meant the SCREEN was huge... lol. thank you though. I cleaned up the wiring yesterday afternoon, and installed an IR transmitter at the center console for the rear passengers. I'm taking a trip in July, and I don't wanna listen to whatever they're watching. So I'll XM it, while they DVD it. I think I'm going to basically modify the dome light cover to cover up what little bit is still showing..maybe paint it or something too. I dunno.

Nice. Now I kinda have an idea of what my 14.1" drop-down will look like, except mine will be just behind the visors, and much cleaner since it's a laptop screen (ie no wires hangin' around, no lights, etc.) It'll be "illegally" installed in my view (drivers view) but I don't give a dayum, lol. The tint going on the front doors is illegal too (and it's only 35, haha.

IMO, it woul have looked much better if the unit was moved towards the fron enough to cover up the domelight opening. most decent quality overheads come with lights that get wired into the esxisting domelight circuit. this way, you wouldnt have had those creases and folds in the headliner.

yeah, but there isn't much to mount to, that far forward. The weight of it, would require me to remove the headliner, and then tack the mount to the roof. Since getting the headliner out with the sunroof is a chore, and since I don't have a welder, and all that, this was the next best way. Plus, where it is now, there is still enough space to use the sunroof cover (the thing that slides shut under the sunroof. Anywhere else, and that would've been elimiated (not that I use if a lot anyway). But yeah, It would've been better if I could have covered the hole. It does have lights, which I did wire to the dome circuit, so I do still have that working. But thanks for the opiniion!

Thats a nasty install, and a worthless installation location. Had some money to burn eh?

Worthless installation huh? Try taking a nice long trip with three young kids in the back of a Cavalier. The wiring has been taken care of, and the domelight cover has been trimmed, and put back in place. It looks fine, thank you.

The bracket was mounted to the rear frame in the roof, which gives plenty of support for the whole unit. Without getting the headliner out, I couldn't see how far forward the next support was. I didn't feel any between the rear, and the sunroof, so that's why it went where it did.

And why? Well, so the people in the car behind me don't have to miss out on the new DVD releases lol. Basically, to keep the kids occupied, should there be any need for them to ride in the car (I have the headphones for that, and I can listen to whatever I want while they are watching). That, and to see if it would work lol.

I should have some later this week. My camera batteries are dead. But, it looks a lot better with the wires hidden.
