low and high beams on together problem?

hopefully this is the right section. i found a link on a beretta site about doing a setup where you turn your lows on and jus tthey go on and when ypu put the highs on the lows stay on. so i followed th einstructions and i found something while testing the wires. withthe lights off, both wire going to the bulb were showing they had power, but once i turned the lights on only 1 wire showed power. which confused me a little but i contineud on and finished th einstall. and it didnt work. when i grounded the relay i heard it click as if it was opening. so i have no idea whats going on . both highs and lows show the same power to both wires with no light on thing. hoping someone can shed some light on this

heres the link i used
http://www.berettastuff.com/mods1/lights.php

i figured that gm wouldnt have changed much wiring wise fom then to now .

Dont suggest doing this at all, someone else did, And melted their wires and blew their bulbs. The bulbs, and wires get tooo hot, then poof.

J-cars use switched ground for headlights... they have +12V all the time.. then the switch gives ground to the lows, or the highs, (or both, if you hold it).

So.. that diagram wouldn't work.

so instead of using the constant 12v should i run it to a ground wire? or will that pop a fuse? do you have a diagram i can use to set thi sup with or some written directions perhaps?

No idea.. never thought about it. It's illegal here in BC to have four headlights on... so I never really considered it.

Painless wiring makes a special wiring harness for this mod. Look it up. I had one on my 1995 cavalier, it was great. It can be done right and work(if you have two separate bulbs for high and low, not a dual filament bulb).
