The battery will be mounted in a battery box, but the battery box manufacturer suggests venting the box due to the explosive gasses etc.....
The box will be mounted in my trunk, on the passenger side.
I'm unsure of where on the passenger side yet, but won't be near the front to avoid blocking the spare tire cover, and to avoid drilling into my gas tank/gas lines.
This leaves me stuck mounting it near the taillights....
How should I go about venting this? Like I said, the manufacturer suggests mounting it in a ventilated area, the trunk isn't ventilated as you all know, and I'd hate to light a cig and blow myself up
Thanks in advance....

if it's on the passenger side. you COULD route a pipe from your battery box to your vent in the quarter panel. use some flexible duct

Any suggestion of size for this ducting?

whatever you can find and make work. as long as it's a vent it should do fine. maybe 2-3" diameter? go shopping. fab something up.

Get an optimum Battery, They are sealed, no venting needed. Or get 2 6V batteries wire them up in a series one on each side behing the carpeting or in the fenders them selves.
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely
true.
Cannon fodder is my daddy.
well i moved mine and had to vent it due to NHRA specs. this is how we did mine.
just drill a small hole, put in a grommet, and shove some hosing through it.
oh and i have an Optima as well. NHRA didnt care though. LOL.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

hypsy....
It's like 5:15 am bro... I know it's early.. and it's probably just me.
But I can't make heads or tails out of your picture lol. I'm gonna have to check that when I get home later.
And if ANY vent will work, I'll be fine. I wasn't sure how big it had to be etc.......
But if we're talking a 2-3" vent .. christ.. I'd be better off with an Optima like Lawnmowerracer suggested, but from whay hypsy said, he has a sealed optima still required to be vented.....
*2nd look at your pic hypsy*
Underside of the car, right?
Anyways, what's the minimum size tubing to be NHRA legal? Is there a minimum?
I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.
there is no minimun size tubing...just has to vent outside. you could just drill a bunch of holes through the floor and box if you wanted to i suppose.
that picture is from the right rear wheelwell looking backwards. the clear hose is the vent tube. the black wire is my power wire.

Ok makes more sense now...
One more question. Will the vent tube help if the box itself isn't sealed?
Its designed in such a way that the lid snaps on, and has little overhangs (4 total, 1 on each side, and 2 on the front) for a place for the wire to drop down.
If needed, I can seal these areas up myself with some plastic filler or something.

Lawnmowerracer is correct. Optima's are completly sealed and you wont need to vent.
