help with amp
Monday, April 04, 2005 1:43 PM
I know there are some system gurus on these forums so maybe somebody can help me out here. First off, this is my system. Pioneer deck, 2 Dual 4 ohm 12" type r's, homemade box, and a rockford 750s for an amp. The amp is what is giving me the problems. After running the amp for awhile, it will become much much quieter. Sometimes it takes awhile, sometimes it takes 10 minutes. If I play around with the seittings, it will sometimes come back on all the way. Usually it doesn't though. Sometimes if i turn the car off and then back on it works, but it usually just has to sit for awhile. This seems to me like it may be overheating and going into a safety mode, but there are two problems with that. 1. Rockford amps run very warm to the touch and it doesn't get warm. 2. Sometimes it only takes a couple minutes. The amp is on an amp rack pushed against the rear of the trunk so I think its getting enough air. All the wires seem to be good. I used this set up for a long time with no power supply problems. A couple months ago I blew a different sub and it got very hot and started smoking. Does anybody think the amp got damaged from this? I'm pretty stuck. Sorry for the long post.
