Have you ever..

Have any of you ever gotten sick of audio, and considered putting your stock system back in?

I'm actually considering that now. I'm more performance oriented, and although I enjoy my stereo and everything, lately it's been such a PITA with a wire short somewhere yadda yadda yadda....

I just feel like taking it all out, putting the stock stuff back in and calling it a day.

I was just curious if anyone else has gone through this.

I hooked up whats in my S-10 right now in like 98'. I never drive it, but when I start it, it works perfectly. Put it in right and you wont get sick of fixing it.

I took out my system like 2 months ago because i needed the trunk space. I don't need the trunk space anylonger, and my system hasn't gone back in. Not sure if i will ever. Stock isn't really that crappy to me anyways. When i first got my car i hated the lack of Bass it had. So i installed the system right away.

I think it's all about growing up. I think most people start with audio, then as they age tey slide into perfromance.

*GASP!* I'll pretend I didn't hear the question

I think the "worst" I would ever go, would be stock speakers, Aftermarket HU, and a small sub. I can't imagine not having a bass drum kick my seat once in a while. And a stock HU...ugh. Not for me. But, it depends. If you're performance oriented, it saves a lot of weight being stock.

i get sick of audio sometimes...but its just because i want a nice relaxing no noise drive....

if you want to go performance wise, just get one sub, its not like it weighs all that much. 50 lbs won't hurt you

growing up doesnt mean getting out of car audio, it means making a system that sounds accurate. most kids dont have what i would consider a real audio system, they just have a pair of subs with way to much power. going back to stock would be like the diffrence of eating steak versus going back to eating a rotten hamburger. if its put in right you shouldnt have an issue, i havnt so much as blown a fuse in 10 years, worst thing ive had is my headunit dying after around 6 years. if its built right and with the right equipment you can have a lightweight system that is accurate and takes up almost no space in the car. people just dont bother to take the time to learn.

It was installed right, the most likely cause of my problem is the fact that the HU is a little bigger than it should be, so I had to cut some of the dash.. you all know what I mean. Anyways, even with the cutting it was still a fairly tight fit...

And it's not so much me growing up... I just think I want a little break from it. I know I'll miss the bass, music doesn't sound the same without it, but at this point, and until I get some time to rebuild a new fiberglass box, and maybe upgrade to 1 12" (I now have 2 10" subs) and find a new amp, I think I'll take a small vacation.

The way I see it, I'll be happier without it for eh.. maybe 2-3 weeks at most, then start missing the bass, and begin plans for a single sub, decently powered setup.. oh and definitely a new HU!!

Or at least until not having low end punch drives me nuts enough to re-install it.

It's not like it's a big deal, and I can use the experience to teach my g/f a few things about uninstalling audio, then teach her about installing it later lol.

Ah well, thanks for the input!

The first thing I did to my car was subs, and yes, I have been recently considering taking them out. But I must agree CharlzO... I'd miss the bass way too much. It's like an addiction.

but realistically, your amp and subs and box will result in all most no noticeable difffrence in horsepower. so why even bother taking it out.

Music is what makes driving fun. I don't think I could ever settle for a stock system again. Like Jason said, though, accurate systems are real audio systems and that's what makes the music enjoyable. I can understand getting sick of a bass system, but when your system is designed to enhance sound quality rather than enhance only bass, the stock stereo is like night and day.

Well I did it... I spent the last 2 hours taking it out.

I went for a drive, and the difference IS noticeable, but not by much. The handling has improved more than the feel of power.

The stock system.. eh well it isn't bad. It has better rear fill than the kenwood 6x9's I had in there hooked only to the high freq. speaker wires.

It's an odd setup....

I have the plain, most basic CD player available, yet the car has 2way? 6x9's with a factory amp hidden in the trunk...

But for now, I like it... Later I'd like to set something new up with 2 10's, or hell, even 2 8's. One in each corner of the trunk, fiberglassed in where the taillights are......

But I agree with most of you, the bass does make the music sound much better
