I'll be trading in the silver z in a few days. I have removed ALL of the electronics, and put the stock radio back in. Naturally, it's Locked (LOC).
Here is my question. Do I pay the $50 bucks to get it turned back on, or just trade it in as is? Do you honestly think it's going to make a big difference in the trade value? Anyone have any experience with this yet?

Thanks, I'd just hate to put any more money into this car...

dude if your trading it in, just keep the radio turned off when you trade it in...
well, the problem with that is that when they start the car, it will say LOC on it.

they wont notice
I can't take that risk, since they saw all of the aftermarket stuff in it last month. I promised that I would return it to stock, and since I'm going to drive it for a couple of weeks, I guess I'll just pony up the money and quit bitchin' about it.

yea thats whats wierd man when i had my system an my car got broken into, i put my stock deck in...and it works fine, no LOC no nothing and my presets where still saved, i was so surprised...
A dealer could probably do it for next to nothing, I'd let them worry about it.

Well, unless they want to dock your trade in value by more than 50 bucks, I say let them do it. Why should you pay it, only to get rid of it? I'd just let them take a few bucks off the trade in value.
Yeah, I hear ya.

after i took my radio out, when i put it back in, it worked fine. i dunno why you got a loc..
unlock it yourself
press the 2 & 3 numbers at the same time for about 10 seconds; a 2 or 3 digit code will come up; press the am/fm button for about 10 seconds; another code will appear; dial 1-800-537-5140 and enter 202107 or 106010 followed by the # sign; enter the 4 or 6 digit code from your radio followed by an *; the phone number will give you a 3 or 4 digit override code; enter this code into your radio just as your owners manual tells you to - use the hour and minute buttons to put in the unloc code
That's funny Acid, since I already know those tricks, however this is a 2001 radio. It has to be turned on by the OBD II computer. That trick only works on the 1.5 din units pre 2000.

sorry man, i thought that would help. Maybe buy a cheap walmart radio and use that instead? Or do they really want that stock radio there?
the dealer can suck up the 50 bux for it.
a few years back when i traded in my neon for a new s10, the headlight bulb was shattered all in the lens, and i just threw the stereo back in there, didnt even bother to hook it up, just fastened it down.
then someone else bought it from another dealership for almost 9K.

yeah let the dealer worry about it
Well, I would like to put it in the paper and see if I can get four grand for it before the Mini gets here. The car is still on a boat in the North Atlantic, and we won't get it until April, so I might still have it turned on...

Haha, no, it's for the wife.
