Making my own harness for 2000
Wednesday, March 02, 2005 10:41 AM
For awhile now i've been wanting to put a deck into my 2000 sunfire, but as everybody knows, the good people at GM want it to be a pain in the a$$. Since i haven't been able to find a reasonably affordable harness up here in ontario (one store even quoted me $200 canadian!!!) i've decided to make my own. I know all the wire colours/codes and i have a mechanic to help me out. I can get a gm harness cut out of a junker for about $35 canadian and a 24-pin harness for about $20. Just wondering if there is anything I should know or if there is any advice anyone can give?

Thanks

yeah, if your talking about the relocation harness, you dont even need it. Just get a gm 2003 harness, or a gm 2002 harness for a satur, and figure out what the speaker wires are. The purpals, and the greens are different. i recommend the gm 2003 harness, and then you need to go to the fuse panel for the 12v switch. Its located at the wiper fuse.
Forget the relocation harness.

I asked this question like a month ago, its not really that possible because the wiring for the T-harness is sort of complex and if you want the chime to ring from the drivers side speaker you need to wire in 2 relays. And its not really worth it because it'll probably end up costing you more to make it.
If you want to keep the chimes , you have 3 options:

1)Metra/Scosche T-harness , which requires an additional speaker for the chimes, relocates the stock deck to the trunk.

2)Best kits BHA2004T (I got this one) it has 2 relays and the chime noise comes from the drivers side front speaker. It also relocates the deck to the back

3)Metra GMVRC-01 chime module, this plugs into the stock plug and provides a chime noise from a speaker that is built into the module. The stock deck is not needed with this option.

OTHERWISE IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT CHIMES:
Get the tracker, prizm harness Metra GM2003 (I believe)
