Saturday, February 12, 2005 3:06 PM
ok once again my car wont start. we put in a cluster, didnt work, tried anbother one and the car ran for 2 weeks and then last nite it crapped out again. same thing as before, i put in yet another cluster and it wont start but i know is\ts the same problem as before. starting to get a little agitated by this. so i jus tneed some detailed directions on bypassing the passlock in my 97 z24. any help woul dbe great. i tried to reset it but the car wont even start, i reset the battery and nothing, held the key in the on position for the 10 minute thing and still nada. so im gonna bypass it and call it a day. either manually or if i have to ill \buy the bypass module if its fairly easy to hook up

I've heard of people using a resistor to bypass it, but I don't know between which wires and what value... I'd assume you'd have to measure it with a multimeter and then use the appropriate resistor..

DEI makes the 555L Passlock bypass.. works mint. But you have to have the car working to make it go... since it has to 'learn' the bypass R-code.. if your car isn't working now, a bypass isn't going to help.

ive read that the bypass thing your talking about also only works with a remote starter. i think my best bet is to get yet another cluster, put it in, if it work, bypass the damn passlock once and for all and then be done with it. i cant believe my bad luck with this. im gonna check my fuses again tomorrow before doing anything else to the car.

thanks again for the info man. let me know if you can think of any way to get around this.

oh and i also read that theres a clip with 2 wires that goes near the key cylinder, if you yank that plug while the car is running it kills the passlock. ever hear of anything like that?

im doing some more research on this right now. from what im gathering i might have to have the key turnned for ward for up to na hour to get the theft system light to start blinking right? i had it there for 10 minutea dn nothing. im thinking its another bad cluster or the ignition switch itself might be fawked. when we put the last good lcuster in the car fired right up, so hopefully i can get this sorted out before monday.

i also read something about using a resitor from like the yellow wire to the black wire. im guessing this would go onto the 3 wire connector that goes into the top of the cluster?

btw for those reading, car is a 97 z24

if you want to permanently disable the passlock, you will have to get the car started. while it is running, cut the yellow wire that comes from the "passlock sensor" on the key cylinder. Now turn the car off., then turn the key from OFF to RUN 13 annoying times. after the 13th time, turn off, then start. the theft light will be on permanently so if you don't like that, you'll have to pop the led that lights it.

after doing this, have a good alarm. passlock will no longer "protect" your car.

thanks, so the car needs to be running for me to do this, no way around that?

and would this be the same wire that runs to the guage cluster in the 3 wire clip or is this something else altogether?

thanks again

Is your theft light flashing or on solid when it does not start???????

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence you tried!

the theft light is solid. i had the key tutrned forward for about an hour and it didnt change, stayed solid. theres no fuel pressure so i know its a theft light issue. no cel either.

what else is the theft system tied into? ignition switch or cylinder or anything i might end up having to replace?
