IM in kind of a dilemna...........i just recently purchased an MTX 1501D amplifier and am now in the market to buy new subwoofers. Ive found both of these speakers for the same price (1 JL or 2 Alpines) and cannot decide which ones to purchase. Does anyone hav any input about which of the two i should buy. Anyone recommend different speakers at a $550 price tag???? Thanx to all that reply!

I think i could get one of the 9500's for just a little less than the one 12w7.
jypy: Have you ever heard the Alpine subwoofers? I havent ever seen them before until I started shopping for new subs and they just looked good on paper but i do not actually know neone who has them in their vehicle.

You can get the Alpine for like $300 ish. If you can grab the W7 up for that I say go for it and tell me where to grab one as well

The Alpine Will not hit as hard as the JL 12W7. That MTX is the Best Bang for the buck.That woofer is an SPL Woofer made for competition so it hits.
the 2 alpine's will be louder then a W7 but for around 550 i would go with some re sx 12's. check out reaudio.com

I have a 12w7 but 2 12's will be louder so I am gunna say the alpine's.

I heard something about the Type X's having a coning problem? And that they had a recall on quite a few of the woofers because either the cone or the spyder coil kept rippign apart... If i am wrong correct me (without flaming please.)

What are you looking for in a woofer? SQ? SPL? How much room do you plan on using? Sealed or Ported? What kind of music do you listen to?
All are questions that need to be answered before anyone can give a good recommendation on a speaker. Otherwise they are just preaching a hard on they have for the company.

Derf: I am looking for the perfect woofer! That is one which puts out great SQ and crazy SPL! You have a great point though.

I believe I am leaning towards SPL more than SQ. I will probably go with a ported enclosure and use as much room as I can. I listen to rap music most of the time. I take it the RE woofers are more SPL?!?

RE has good SQ with all of their drivers with the XXX taking the cake in their lineup. If you are favoring more SPL than SQ than I would look into the SX though. Its more efficient and will get louder off 1200 watts or less.
