How much power can RE's handle?!?
Monday, January 10, 2005 1:42 PM
i was just wondering this to see how much i need to save up to properly power two 12" XXX's. i found some hifonics amps on sale at ikesound.com and im thinking about buying one..... so yeah how much RMS can these beasts take?
they are rated to take up to 2500rms....i'm wanting to say that's a thermal rating....either way a guy on here has 3,000 going to one with no problems.

If i were running two. i would probably go with a visonik 4000D
haha, it's cool. I remember when I used to think 750 watts was a lot. Now a lot to me is 5,000+.

With regards to those amps, I've never run that model but I have run the 1500's. Good amps for the money. Everything I've heard about the 2200's has been good. I think they would do very well for some XXX's. Just make sure you have the electrical system to power them.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, check out the Memphis Mojo's. Very powerful amps, and not a big current hog from what I remember.
cool thanks so does hifonics suck or are they just not a good choice?
I think they are good. Everyone has their own opinion though. They are good, reliable, cheap amps if you ask me.
what would the electrical system need? i know a HO alt but would i also need another battery or possible another alt? and of course i would upgrade all the wiring. and thanks for the input about the hifonics.
Personally, I would run one battery to each of the amps. So a total of three. One up front, two in the back. Plus the HO alternator you should be good to go.
so would i connect all 3 to the same alt? and would i need an isolator for each batt or connect both to one isolator and then to the alt? thanks for all your help man.
yes i have 3000 watts now running off one 15 which im about to stick it in a sealed box. my 1st system was only 300 watts rms and i thought 1500 watts was a lot but now i pretty much any thing above 5000 is alot
yeah i saved all the videos from realm of excursion. hehe. theyre awesome. so for the 12" theres a possibility i could run 3000w on each one? also is there anyway to port the box holding them without destroying the interior of the car (ima sell it a couple of years from now)? btw i have a sedan. also since its a daily driver should i get a red top as a primary batt and 2 yellow tops or what? could these break my windows(the awnser could take me down to 1 12" XXX)?

my so far short list of needed equipment:
2 12" XXX (duh)
amp or amps to power those beasts
2 new batt (more than likely 3)
1/0 gauge wiring
2 isolators
2 more fuse's
an assload of MDF
and possibly a couple of sheets of plexiglass
waaay more damping material

if im missing anything could you please tell me. thanks.
i do believe the subs will reach full excursion WAY before the 3000 mark. 1600 would probably do it. And if your porting them...your gonna need about 5-7 cubes total for both of them.

and i doubt they'll break anything.
cool thanks and for the batteries since its a daily driver, is there anything in particular that i should know about? also right now im running 500 rms and i wanna upgrade teh wiring (the big 3) should i go 1/0 gauge right now and get it over with or should i wait? also how many amps would i need to upgrade my stock alt too? thanks alot for you help guys.
Tredici wrote:i thought the specs were near 1500-2000 RMS suggested.... but thats just me

the rms rating is 1600-2500....and i'm pretty sure they reach full excursion at 1600. sure they'll take more, but they don't need it to get loud.

and for batteries...it depends how much power your gonna run, i'd do one battery PER 1,000 watts. you don't have to run yellowtops...there are batteries that will give you more amps for less money. optimas are just prettier, not always better.

and go ahead with the 1/0awg under the hood. might as well do it now rather then later.
