Ok. So, for the first time ever I bought an after market set of fronts and a separate amp to power them. (went with CDT audio 6.5". Still trying to figure out how to do the conversion, but that's a different story. Autotek 300w 2ch amp). So, I'm just a little confused on how the sound is getting to the fronts with them on their own amp. I am connecting the component amp from the "out" on the subwoofer amp. If the only thing connected to the head unit is the sub amp, am I still controlling the components with the head unit? Sorry if this sounds confusing as all hell. Appreciate any help.
The amp for the subs is an Autotek MM1-1000D "MeanMachine"

Your head unit should have 3 sets of outputs on the back. Front, rear, and sub. Get a set of RCAs hook them into the front. Run that to the rear to the amp. Then youre going to need to run two sets of wires to the front of the car and through the grommet into each door. One set per door. If youre working if coaxials just hook them into the wires you ran (pay attention to polarity). If youre working with components run the wires into the passive crossover and mount the crossover somewhere behind the door panel or on the door panel whatever works. The wire the mid and tweeter to their respective spots in the crossover. Mount the mid with the baffle you made or bought and mount the tweeter on the door panel, sail panel, or wherever you choose. Replace door panels. Done.

Awesome thanks. Thought I would just be able to hook up the RCAs from the output of the sub amp to the input of the component amp, but that way sounds less confusing. Unfortunately the Bracket I purchased to convert from 4.5" to 6.5" doesn't fit the speaker. The mounting bracket for the speaker (around the edge) sticks out further than the conversion bracket's edge. So, I gotta figure something out for that. Thanks for your help though!

depending on what brand of headunit u have is wether you will have 1,2, or 3 outputs. cheaper models may not have as many outputs. if you go with the output of the sub amp to the input of your high amp your still controlling the volume the same. you just wont have the ability to adjust the volume of your sub and the volume of your highs independantly. but if you level set properly you shouldnt have to do much changing of those.

Also, have you heard anything about making an adapter plate out of cutting boards? Are they easy to cut?

Use MDF. You can pick up 2ftx4ft sheets at most bigger home improvement type places.

I sent him a pm. I hope he can do something for me lol. I decided not to even pretend I could make my own adapters. For now I will just set the wiring up so it's ready to go, since I have my interior stripped atm.

oooooh. I bought up a $25 jigsaw at Menards and a set of wood blades. Totally can do anything with it.
